ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded a sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft to Arizona for the rights to former Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians, who was still under contract despite retiring after the 2017 season. In addition to securing the rights to Arians, the Bucs will receive the Cardinals’ seventh-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Originally, the league ruled that no compensation was needed for the Bucs to sign Arians, but Arizona argued with the NFL that the Cardinals still held Arians’ rights because he was not fired.

  1. Basically a gesture of respect between the two franchises. Unfortunately the NFL should be more honorable and stick with the initial agreement that they agreed upon.

Regardless Glazers, Licht and Bucs organization made it happen to land the candidate they thought would be the best hire. Arians is a huge coup for a franchise that has struggled to find a swagger since Gruden left town.

    • Fleeced? The Bucs won a Super Bowl because they sacrificed those draft picks. Correct me if I am wrong, but that is the goal, right?

      • I think we were going to get it within a year or two anyway with Dungy, had he stuck around and got a good OC. Or maybe with another coach. The team was ready with a championship caliber defense in place. They just needed a little nudge on the offensive side of the ball. Just my opinion…

That trade put the Bucs down for a long, long, time. But we are living in the future now, and I think we can honestly say that this team’s future is so bright we are going to need our shades!

  6. We will learn guickly what kind of talent we have as BA and staff get to know personnel. Instead of more of the same(Koetter) there is hope and optimism again in Buccaneer Cove! Can’t wait so see the new boss at work! I, like many, was very concerned that Licht and/or Glazers would bungle this hire. I was wrong. Nice hire… Head Coach experience, a couple of Rings, and a familiar staff that won’t require as much work to gel coaching personalities. Today is a good day for Buc Fans! Go Bucs!

  9. I also heard that Leftwich was going to be the OC. I can’t say I’m too pumped about this. He did make some strides when he took over at AZ late in the season., but nothing worth bragging about there. Then again, he did have Rosen as his QB, so he deserves a fair shot here to see what he can do. Go Bucs, it’s a new day in Tampa Bay (again)!
