The Bucs signed franchise wide receiver Chris Godwin to a three-year deal worth $20 million per year. And the team added Atlanta’s Russell Gage with a three-year deal worth $10 million per year. Yet Tampa Bay may not be done at receiver. According to Doug Kyed, the Bucs will be hosting Arkansas’ Treylon Burks on a Top 30 visit prior to the 2022 NFL Draft.

Burks will reportedly visit Tennessee and Green Bay, too. NFL.com’ Daniel Jeremiah compares the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Burks to Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown. Burks is a first-round caliber talent and will be among the first receivers drafted. The Bucs might be holding out hope he slips to No. 27 due to his 4.55 time in the 40-yard dash.

Each NFL teams gets to bring 30 draft prospects to their headquarters for in-person interviews. The NFL also allows teams to host additional local draft prospects from nearby colleges or players who grew up in those cities.

A two-year starter for Arkansas, Burks was a first-team All-SEC player in 2021 and was a second-team All-SEC selection in 2020. After catching 51 passes for 820 yards (16.1 avg.) and seven touchdowns as a sophomore, Burks’ production exploded. He hauled in 66 passes for 1,104 yards (16.7 avg.) and 11 TDs last year.

Burks’ appeal to Tampa Bay is the fact that he played in the slot as well as outside. His size and ability to make contested catches is similar to Mike Evans. While Burks’ playing style is reminiscent of Godwin. Both get yards after the catch and are tough over the middle.

Because the Bucs offense is receiver-driven, it really takes four solid receivers for Tampa Bay to be at its most efficient. Last year, Godwin missed the end of the season and the playoffs due to a knee injury. After Antonio Brown’s abrupt departure and late-season injuries to Breshad Perriman and Cyril Grayson, Jr., the Bucs offense didn’t have enough firepower to beat the Rams in a home playoff game. Adding a dynamic playmaker like Burks would give Tom Brady and the Bucs a fourth big-time weapon along with Evans, Godwin and Gage.

I’m not sure that’s where we should be going with our first round pick… but the prospect of Evans, Godwin, Gage, and Burks is absolutely sick! We could set scoring records.

agreed. As incredible as that sounds they almost have to attack the defensive side of the ball. Unless of course they sign some other pieces in the next couple of days. Even is Suh comes back, they have to get younger and there’s not a lot of depth at the defensive end position either. It would be comforting as fan to see pressure get there with four instead of seemingly blitzing the house every other down.

Great player, but we need to go BPA out of DT, OG, or CB. Preferably a trench player.

I hope 1st rd they go defense and best CB or S available. Maybe DT but there aren’t many very good ones in this draft. OLB is a big need imo too. They are counting on JTS and Nelson to step up and you just don’t know if they will. Shaq alone will be doubled like last year when JPP was hurt and pass rush will be non existent again. Blitzing all time again? No thanks. See end of Rams game! To go all way you have to have 3 things above all else, a great QB and we have… Read more »

I’d rather see us draft a DT – for now (to learn behind Suh, yes resign him) an later (take over when Suh retires soon)…
