After releasing Bryan Anger on Tuesday, the Bucs aren’t done making roster moves to the kicking game. According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the Bucs are expected to sign former 49ers punter Bradley Pinion to a four-year deal.

Pinion spent four years on the 49ers and averaged 43.7 yards per punt during the 2018 season. He also handled kickoff duties for the team, which is an important factor for the Bucs that could signal a return of field goal kicker Cairo Santos, who doesn’t have the strongest leg on kickoffs. Pinion could take over that role, letting Santos focus primarily on field goals and extra points if they were to re-sign him.

  1. His mechanics need work as he has a tendency to shank his punts. But the Bucs actually have a good special teams staff so I think they can fix that issue.

  2. Wait, we just got a 5th round punter? Does this get us closer to being even on Aguayo? 😉

  4. I understand this guy is 6-5 240. Big guy with a big leg. Maybe Pinion can rack up the yards for the Bucs. You can see where I’m steering this conversation, right? (I didn’t just say that did I?) lol. Go Bucs!

    • Yeah seems like a downgrade but if he is coached up he may be on par at some point.

  8. I have followed Pinion for several years as a kicking geek, and the guy has a monster leg. I remember several years ago, before going pro, he set a Kohl’s Camp record with a 100yd. kickoff.

Having a punter double with kickoffs gives the team flexibility to get a guy who just kicks FG’s.

Good move, and a clear sign the team is also focusing on special teams, an area the Bucs have sucked on for years.
