The Bucs beat the Jets 28-24 in a comeback win on Sunday, but that wasn’t the main headline. In a surprising move even for him, Antonio Brown quit on his team in the third quarter. He tossed his equipment to the side, threw his undershirt and gloves into the crowd and jogged shirtless to the end zone, waving at fans as he exited to the locker room.

Following the game, Bruce Arians said that Brown is no longer a Buc. One of Brown’s closest friends on the team, Tom Brady, shared his thoughts on the situation after.

“That’s obviously a difficult situation,” Brady said. “I think we all want him…I think everybody should hopefully do what they can to help him in ways that he really needs it. We all love him, we care about him deeply. We want to see him be at his best. Unfortunately it won’t be with our team.”

Brady lobbied to get Brown on the team last season, even offering to let him to stay at his house when he first moved to Tampa. No one would fault Brady if he were angry or upset with Brown’s actions, but he chose to take the high road after the game.

“We have a lot of friendships that will last,” Brady said. “And again I think the most important thing about football are the relationships with your friends and your teammates that go beyond the field. I think everyone should be very compassionate and empathetic toward some very difficult things that are happening.”

It looked like fellow wide receiver Mike Evans was trying to calm Brown down right before his outburst. Many players said they didn’t know about what had transpired until after the Bucs had won, including Brady.

“The guys that were in the game, we were in the game, focused,” Brady said. “I didn’t know too much until after the game, to be honest. I was just out there playing, trying to do my job.”
