The Bucs have completed a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers for offensive tackle Jerald Hawkins, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

Hawkins was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft but has played in just five games during the 2017 season, starting one, since joining the team.

For Hawkins, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh will swap late-round picks in the 2021 draft, as reported by Greg Auman of The Athletic.

  3. Hooray! Licht is actually making an effort? I can’t believe it. Now try to find us a decent DE. The Patriots made trades for 3 O linemen even before the waiver wires. But then again, we can’t even carry the Pats jock straps huh?

  9. Of all the potential offensive lineman we could have traded for, we trade for one that has almost as much experience as the undrafted free agents that we released! There is a real problem with the Oline scouting department(GM)! Wtf! This was the best that was available of all the other teams offensive lineman that were about to get released?! Very disappointing. Why was his last play in 2017?! Injuries maybe??? WTF!

      • Y’all are acting like we gave up a day-2 selection for this player. We swapped our 6th for their 7th and a player. One of which may have been on the scouting department’s radar since his draft year. For all we know, he may have been on Arians’ radar as a possible selection while he was in AZ. This move takes out the risk of a failed waiver claim without much of a sacrifice.

Absolutely right.. I’ve never seen anything like it. I see this all the time. People state OBVIOUS facts. If that person is telling the truth but is criticizing Licht it gets tons of (-) .
I thought this board had a lot more civil but knowledgeable fans as opposed to other boards. Yet somehow this is a place that loves everything a terrible GM has done. I get the Bucs players from FSU n Fla getting homer opinions. That’s expected, but why such loyalty to a terrible GM ?

Here’s case in point… now obviously there was ONE year in SIX. That two OL were taken in RD 2. However the OLine has been drastically IGNORED. So someone says something about an irrelevant linemen being acquired for a swap of 7’s – it’s a shot that is well deserved and has more (-) than ( + ). You kidding ? Just wait until week 6 , when Evans is our #2 and Howard wants out. PR will defend both the pick of him and the system not using him properly. So he’ll be a great pick even though he’s non existent and not doing anything in this offense. With the offense also doing a great job in regards to our TEs.

  21. The goal with backups is to coach up and refine their technique. This is a good trade as it allows the Bucs to not be forced to put Benenoch into the starting lineup if there was an injury with one of the tackles. Sure, Watford could play at either tackle spot, but he isn’t really suited for it. Now, the Bucs have two backups that can play tackle before Benenoch has to even come in. So, if Benenoch sticks on the 53 heading into the season he will be given an entire season of practice to prove his worth with this coaching staff.

With that said I am all for the Bucs picking up ANOTHER OL to add to what they have currently. Bucs need to develop as many OL as they can. Plus, the additions to the PS will also help in the long run.

  23. They cut 4 total O lineman that have been in camp and use to system and trade for a guy that has basically played 1 game and has been practicing the steelers system as was going to be cut by steelers had they not traded.
I guess that makes since to Joel Gilbert the out of work line coach that Bruce picked up with his under the fired coaches that lined up under the star chart.

Perhaps he’s picked up and makes a career. Personally, potential can only take u so far. I really think he should of been cut last year. I’m just saying…

  25. Yes he is able to play both Tackle positions. He played both at LSU and they begged him to stay for his Senior year but he went with the Steelers. They developed him to be their swing OT before he was hurt but he is fine now. Once he learns our system he can be our swing Tackle. He is 6’6” and 305 pounds. I am sure our scouts have watched his play in Preseason.

  26. I understand why many of you have little faith in Licht’s decisions based upon previous years. I don’t understand why you have so little faith in BA.

Everyone on the roster was given a second chance this past off season. Hargreaves, Jones, Cichy, etc. made the cut. Spence did not. They brought in an offensive lineman via trade before going to the waiver wire.

Licht and Arians are operating in sync. No personnel decisions are being made in a vacuum by either one. It is as simple as that.

    • It’s not about faith in BA as knowing his football. I think he’s a great coach for teaching fundamentals. He’s good in that aspect. I don’t however have much faith in his system working for this team. Also for a guy who knows the game, I don’t think he’s some expert evaluator of a guys ability. Especially those coming out of college. His Arizona drafts weren’t that great at all. I think 2019 TB draft was another blown opportunity. It could and should have been much better!!! The fact Brashad Perriman is getting 10 targets in two weeks and O.J. Howard and Cam Brate combine for 2 in week 2? With Howard at ZERO? Again .. Really ? Perriman is terrible! Poor route running , and bad hands. So That’s been proven by the drops the other night. People shouldn’t forget that Peyton, Big Ben, Palmer .. these guys were as smart and talented as you’ll ever see. Two HOF QBs with 7 SBs So if they had to take a beating to get through their progressions , what’s a QB who’s 1/2 as quick reading his reads and twice as scared to get hit gonna do ? Also Todd Bowles is the mind behind our defensive turnaround not Bruce Arians. Plus let’s face a top 20 passing team before we even crown them as well.

  27. I’ll admit I don’t know anything about this guy. But what I do know is that he certainly could be an upgrade to the back-up candidates that were on our roster. All Jason Licht did with the swap of a 6th for a 7th to assure he got the player he targeted. We’ll have to see how the youngster develops.

Disappointed about Spence who has followed Bowers’ path. Another highly regarded player who failed to live up to expectations. I was a bit curious when, like last season, Spence was playing late in the game and not really showing much. It’s curious to me why so many teammates praised him early in camp.

Time to focus on the 53 man roster that is on the field.

I guess you forgot about Cleveland? Cleveland’s O-Line was man handled by the Bucs, and have been the discussion of possibly being the worst O-Line in the preseason on many NFL shows. They are the Achilles heel of the Browns. But I guess since your a Cleveland fan you probably figured you would omit them with bias.

  29. Stars lineup fired coaches available
“Bet 10 bucks ladies” Fredster is available !
All you have to do is use google Jan 18, 2016

The Indianapolis Colts have fired one of the team’s two offensive line coaches Joe Gilbert, who has been the offensive line coach since 2013.
But the firing of Gilbert is most notable. The offensive line, a perpetual punch line the past four seasons, has failed to demonstrate significant progress since Andrew Luck arrived in 2012. It’s among the reasons the Colts were forced to start three different quarterbacks in 2015 and play five.

  35. Well. The line is a mess. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised at this point as we could see this coming.

I’m surprised by the comments on this section as most of you who are complaining no doubt wanted an upgrade on the line. I am not really sure what you expected but this trade here is basically what I expected. A young prospect that has a bit of experience and someone we can develop and hopefully rely on when needed.

I think with BA he trusts Jameis Winston to avoid some sacks when things break down. Outside of Andrew luck he’s never really had a QB who always able to do this. I also expect Winston to take a lot of hits and sadly he’s gonna take a beating. While I don’t think this offensive line is the worst in the league I also don’t think it’s gonna even be middle of the pack good.

My hope is this line can gel and stay injury free and be a serviceable unit. This trade helps that for sure
