Latest Bucs Headlines

Like clockwork, the Bucs suffered more injuries in their 31-15 Wild Card win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The injury bug attacked the offensive line this time, claiming Tristan Wirfs and Ryan Jensen as victims.

All-Pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs injured his ankle on the first drive of the game. Wirfs got his ankle rolled up on during the previous play, exiting with an injury. Reserve tackle Josh Wells came in at right tackle for the injured All-Pro. Wirfs tried to return later in the second quarter, but was quickly shut down for the day.

Another scary moment came on a Bucs touchdown run by Ke’Shawn Vaughn. Center Ryan Jensen was injured on the play, but walked off under his own power. He went straight to the blue medical tent, where he stayed for the entire defensive series. Jensen came out just as the offense was gearing up to take the field and rejoined his teammates in the huddle. The Pro Bowl center finished the game, but his injury is worth monitoring.

Post Game Update

Head Coach Bruce Arians was asked postgame about the severity of their injuries.

“Looks like it’s the same as it was at halftime,” Arians said about Wirfs injury. “I just saw him a minute ago and it hasn’t changed. He’s got a sprained ankle. We’ll see.”

The Bucs head coach said he was generally happy about the win, but obviously not the injuries that came out of it.

“Wasn’t real happy about some of the injuries,” added Arians. “Hopefully they’re not super serious. Looked like Jensen came back in and Tristan tried it.”

When asked what he’d like to see from his team going forward, Arians said just like them to stay healthy.

“Just staying healthy,” Arians said. “Hopefully we can keep our offensive line intact, because I think they’re one of the best in football. Tristan especially. They’ll be working on that ankle non-stop (this week).”

Arians also revealed safety Mike Edwards suffered an injury.

“He’s banged up,” Arians said. “He got hurt on that one punt protection, but he’s a baller man.”

The extent of Edwards and Jensen’s injuries are unknown, but it sounds like Arians is hopefully that all three players will be able to work their way back for the Divisional Round matchup.
