Sadly, I've been thinking about next year for awhile (thought we'd contend this year). At this point, I'm assuming Schiano is back which suggests Glennon will be our starter. With no Freeman salary, I believe we'll have significant space. We should consider extending Lavonte now (and a few others). Based on output, I think we need to look at reductions/changes in other areas to get proper value, i.e. offensive line.Thinking mathematically:On offense:We'll keep our QB and RBs at current salary levels and be underspent proportionally... will probably get a journeyman qb as backup and teacher. We're a bit high at WR with Williams' extension and should limit our dollars to spend there (good place for 1st/2nd round draft pick for young speed player).Based on output, we're overspent at OL and should look at reductions (and youth) there (which could be partially spent on a 2nd TE- even though Wright shows flashes)Basically, it looks like we may be moving more money to the defensive side of the ball from a mathematical perspective.Interior DL taking shape if we keep McCoy.As we all know, DE is a mess.LBs appears adequate- I'd lock up Lavonte now at a slightly reduced rate than we'd get in a year or two, but we could delay decision. Decision needed on Foster- are his coverage skills adequate?Safety- alot of money here- no increasesCB- Using Revis as an outlier, there's money to spend on additional CB.Special Teams- we'll probably get cheaper at Punter positionSo... mathematically, I'd use our cap space to:1. Get stud DE(s) if we can find/recruit them2. Improve CB2 and slide Banks to CB33. Try to get younger and/or better at OL I'd use draft to:1. Get younger at OL2. Get a young speed receiver/possible special teamer3. Take a shot on another DE (interested to hear Bucs thoughts on Gholsten and Means)4. since we don't have Revis pick, I only project filling 2 slots immediatelyI look forward to yuc's detailed breakdown when it comes.
