Scott/Mark -- couple questions re: roster outlook I've been meaning to ask.Mason Foster and the Mike: From my casual-fan perspective Foster looked vulnerable in a couple roles... one of which was the deep under coverage. Unless Lovie's defense is dramatically different than it used to be, Foster seems to be out of position as the Mike. Question: Am I exaggerating his lack of deep cover ability, and do you see him being moved to Sam where he may be in a better position to play to his strengths?Demps: What's the outlook on him sticking with the team? Any indicators on his continued desire to run track vice play football, and how has his recovery come along? Tedford talks about "speed in space" as a core to his offensive philosophy... if there's a guy on our roster that possesses that capability it's Demps. Curious how the team sees him - if at all - going forward.Appreciate it...

The Foster question may not be answered until camp. Mason wasn't asked to play a lot of deep middle coverage in Sheridan's scheme so it may be hard to tell. I asked Mason about that late in the year and he told me he thinks his coverage skills are improved. He told me the biggest problem in 2011, his rookie year, was no offseason or mini camps after switching to an unfamiliar position. I think the Bucs give him an opportunity to earn the spot in the offseason before the draft then address it if they feel they need to. Too early to tell at this point.Same thing with Demps. Maybe Demps is that Devin Hester game-changing returner that Lovie wants. but we just don't have any idea where he is on playing football at this point. I will try and touch base with his agent Daniel Rose next week. He's a pretty good guy.

I like Foster 's overall attitude and enthusiasm about playing the game. Imho, he will get better in a secondary scheme that plays to his strengths be he moved to a different position or not. As for Demps, I would like to see him at slot receiver instead of in a return role due to his speed in space potential. It will be interesting to see the changes this regime makes. Demps, being a track guy, in a return role would have to change his weight too often to withstand the punishment it takes to return punts and run track at a world class level. It's been done. But, is he up for it?

Shouldn't count on Demps. Need to look for someone with a real resume as a returner and slot receiver. Say Dexter McCluster. If Demps provides anything, consider it a bonus.

Oh I'm with you. He's not Devin Hester yet and hasn't really proven anything other than he is very fast – on a track. And I know Greg was not happy at all with the Demps wishy washy attitude about football during camp, but went along with it. I would feel the same way if I were the head coach.

On Foster, does he have the sae basic stats (speed, size etc) of Urlacher?  I know there is way more to it than that, but does he at least have a similar foundation?

I am not for obtaining any player that doesn't have 2-3 more years in them.  We might be an 8-8 team, and I think we should try to stay with the draft as much as possible.  We also have an aging OL coming up after this year.

They are different players completely. Foster is a downhill LBer. Urlacher played the "Lobo" position which is more of a rover or LBer/Safety combo. That made Urlacher much more adaptable to a MLBer who could cover and get deep. I don't think the measurable really mean all that much in this situation.

I know there are a lot of negatives about Demps... primary being his desire to run track. If that works itself out the rest is pure reward. There's no denying the little glimpse we got of him was exciting. We need as much speed on offense as we can get.

the biggest negative with demps is that hes not a great football player IMO.  but he is fast.  vision and instincts are more important IMO.
