The Buccaneers have fired Mark Dominik, who has been with the team since 1995 and served as Tampa Bay's general manager since 2009. Dominik's record of 28-52 during his five-year stint was his undoing, as the Bucs only produced one winning season in 2010 and never made the playoffs. https://www.pewterreport.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=9532:&Itemid=15

This was the right move.  I don't believe anyone was confident of the leadership of Schiano moving forward, and Dominik also had to be held accountable.  Go Bucs!

So am I. Not really sure he deserved a promotion, but thought he would have kept his job. However, some teams treat the GM and head coach as a pair. Chip Carter reported the whole staff, OC,DC, etc may be looking for jobs elsewhere. There is a scheduled news conference @2pm EST.

Just got up and logged in and saw the news.  I would definitely be interested in taking a look at Stoke if he has the chops for it.  Otherwise there isn't any internal candidate I'd roll with.

This one still bugs me a little. If the Glazers are looking at a top-to-bottom redo of the organization then good, I'm all for it. But if Dominik ends up falling on the sword of the Schiano hire primarily then this sucks. Drafting got progressively better, pro personnel was a mixed bag, probably league average when it's all said and done. From what PR has reported he's on the cutting edge of using analytics and other things that made his drafting stronger as he gained experience. There are two things that I think are fair criticisms which may have been magnified to the Glazers in terms of importance:- One is obviously the lack of value for product. I'm sure after Raheem Dominik told the Glazers he needed to be able to spend money to get results. When that didn't translate into the things he promised, i.e. wins, it didn't matter what the reasons were... Nicks' injury resulting in poor OL play, the Wright strikeout, or just coaching failure and inability to maximize talent. Easy for me to say "so what" but they're the ones cutting that fat check. Maybe the way Dominik spent cash to free up cap space put this under a microscope from a business perspective.- Second, and to me the most unforgivable, is the Freeman saga. It's entirely possible and maybe likely that Dominik was so wed to developing Freeman as a franchise QB out of his first draft that he overlooked the obvious red flags we all hear about. It was clear Schiano didn't want Freeman; that torpedoed a lot of things, probably going back to last year from a football perspective. Reading between the lines of his release and how it played out inside OBP, it seemed maybe Schiano was the driving force with Dom having to be convinced. When Freeman totally flamed out in Minny and it was clear Freeman was probably behind the leaks vice Schiano, it had to have seriously hurt the Glazers' confidence in Dom. If it's true that Freeman's issues, whatever they are, were known since before Schiano's hiring then it's also true that Dom should have addressed them well before they destroyed the team's chances of competing - even if it meant mailing in hope for his first draft class. To me that's on Dom for the most part... maybe the Glazers felt blindsided by the whole thing, maybe they felt Dom should've foretold the issues and dealt/cut/did more to help Freeman. I hope the Glazers are seriously looking at a replacement they want, with the right quals and who fits into their new vision of how the organization with function. What I really don't want to happen is the Lovie Smith rumors are true and they snag him before the GM. That spells trouble IMO.
