It's either an addiction problem, or the dude is battling himself over his sexuality. People are so afraid to come out and be themselves. Esp. in the position that Freeman was and still is in, the locker room could have really adverse actions and alienate the kid. And the only way he knows how to deal with this thing is to drink to numb the situation.
You know what's tough, it sounds like Schiano and Dom were dealt a really tough (maybe uncontrollable) situation with Josh over the summer and beginning of the year. I respect Scott for saying he was wrong for blaming Schiano for the Free situation.
So do I and I really wish people would let it go. Freeman, Schiano and Dominik are no longer Buccaneers. The second A in AA has meaning. The Buccaneers have hired Lovie Smith, Leslie Frazier and Jeff Tedford over the past few days. It's a new year, a new day in Tampa Bay.............. Thank goodness!
+1Enough with the drama
SR's not in AA. Or in recovery. Dude won't even take an aspirin.
To add kindle to the fire. I have known Scott for 15 years (not personally but g2t, TC's etc) and it made me think that I have never seen him drink at all, ever. Just because he is not in AA does not mean that he has never been, or has never recovered from alcohol abuse. Even if that is not the case, it also does not mean that Freeman did not reach out to Scott for help, which would explain his stance.
Regarding one issue that has been discussed. Freeman's issues have been described as personal "problems". If the issue were that he was gay that would not be very likely described as a "problem". Whatever it is, assuming there is an "it", is likely something other than that.
There is no way Scott would say what he said if it was related to general same sex attraction. No way. Alcohol, drug ... or sexual addiction that effected his job? That's completely different. Playing high? That's completely different. I'm glad we've moved on.

Scott must get some real Migraines reading some of this "Stuff"!As one who was very dissapointed about the Schiano coverage, the real SR returned, admitted mistakes and returned to the fair and balanced reporting that so many of us have enjoyed for many years. As Garv stated though, its time to move on!
I will say this for the last time. Months ago my son's friend who is friends with Freeman said that Josh was too much of a lady's man and was spending too much time in the bars. Now maybe Josh had some other secret thing that this friend/friends didn't know about, but I doubt it. Josh is just a guy with lots of money and is experiencing the good and bad about wealth and how to handle the attention. He could straighten himself out eventually. He has about a year before he's out of the NFL picture so I hope he has gotten or will get a wake up call shortly. I wish him the best.
Has anyone thought how easy it would have been for SR to stick to his guns on Schiano? And after Monday he could have looked like a genius. I'm telling you the guys he is a very ethical standup guy.
Except Schiano being a big meanie with Freeman was a big barrel of those guns. There were plenty of reasons to fire Schiano, but kicking Freeman to curb wasn't one of them. Most could see that by his play on the field, without even conclusively knowing about the off-the-field stuff.

I don't doubt that one bit. But it was pretty clear he let personal feelings about the former Kansas State QB effect his writing after Freeman was sent packing, i.e. the babysitting comment.

Agreed, nor would being gay make him late to meetings, not showing up his camp, etc..
Weird to watch all the nonsense speculation in this thread.
VIN and everyone...Just to be clear, the only reason any of this came back up was because Scott brought it back up yesterday in the chat. It's not like I woke up yesterday and randomly decided to post something. I hardly ever post anything, but the way that Scott has handled himself on the Freeman matter has more than invited speculation.
Is this thread for real? It's called "off-the-record." That means that the source provided info with the stipulation that it not be disclosed. Give me a break with the "pretty juicy stuff." It's called journalism.
Perhaps better described as journalistic integrity.

I agree and Scott's comments keep getting stronger on the issue.

Yeah, the trashing and snark directed at Schiano was a great example of jour...oh, wait. It's the double standard that pisses me off
When he felt he was wrong he stepped up to the plate and admitted it to every person who would take the time to read the article.
