Again though, we want nothing more than Mike to get serious and be the best player he can be.
yep, that is what everyone wants. Hopefully he does that here and not after being cut or traded . . or never
I agree. I want MW to straighten his priorities and stay a BUC!

Big implications, around $6.2 million I believe. But high priced older vets get cut all the time, and while it would hurt the team, I think the message sent would be huge. It would tell everyone that salary, prominence, your name, or anything elsewill keep you from getting cut if you don't hold up your end of the bargain of what the organization expects you to be. Greg caught some unfair flack for his big bad sheriff mentality, getting rid of guys, but that wasn't just Schiano, that directive was highly influenced by those above him. And I don't really see that changing under Lovie. Again though, we want nothing more than Mike to get serious and be the best player he can be.
His cap hit would be $6.4 for 2014 which adds $4.6mil to the cap. I don't see it happening at least at this point.

Do I have this timeline correct that this all started during the mid 2012 season? And what was the date again of the new contract?

It's all troubling, but I think the Bucs appear to be handling this correctly - second chance, short leash, nothing rash. The reality is that football players - even good football players -- party. It's as old as the sport. But this appears to be getting into the distraction category. The other reality is that unlike the the days of Sonny Jurgenson, Bobby Lane, and North Dallas 40 the work is year round, the money is bigger, the eyeballs (and cameras, and publishing outlets) are everywhere.
