Assuming Lovie's recent QB comment is NOT a smoke screen, who could the Bucs realistically expect to take at #7 and is that player worth it? The six picking in front of us are:1 Texans (QB right?)2. Rams (trade or non-QB?)3. Jags (QB, right?)4. Browns (QB, right?)5. Raiders (QB? Unless they get Freeman, maybe?)6. Dirty Birds (non-QB)That means that there will likely be 3 and maybe 4 QBs taken before us, so who could the Bucs realistically expect to take at #7 and is that player worth it? Alternatively, is it a trade down ploy?
Vin, my gut says if Bridgewater slips, he'll be our pick. His personality and consistency seem similar to Lovie.
Vin, I think it's only a "trade down ploy" if one of the top 3 QB's does not make it to pick #7. And I don't think Freeman will keep anyone from drafting a QB...unless it's another league. To give my opinionated answer to your first question, I'd guess Robinson, Barr, Matthews, Mack, or Watkins. Any of them could be "worth it". If I had to guess today, the pick would be Robinson. Unfortunately, Lovie knows he doesn't have to win this year, so he'll re-build the Oline.

I just cant imagine the guy slipping, but if he does I would agree

thanks Sweep, I guess I don't see a really good QB scenario, unless they really think one of the guys is undervalued
The way I see it isHou - BortlesSTL - ClowneyJax - BridgewaterCle - ManzielOak - WatkinsAtl - MackBucs - Robinson OR Matthews (I think they trade/cut Penn to help pay for the massive roster turnover that Lovie talked about - plus his Bears never had good O-Line play)Min - Kony Ealy This actually leaves the Bucs in a great position because there is a chance - in my opinion - they could trade up with New England (or another late round team) and only lose a 4th and 5th to grab Carr.
Options should Bridgewater, Manziel, Bortles, Watkins, and Clowney be off the board - leaves the team Mack, Barr, Matthews, Robinson and any other players they deem worthy. However should both Robinson and Matthews be on the board at 7 I see a team trading up to 7 for the chance to select who they feel is the best LT prospect and selling a partial farm for the chance. however with the Falcons in desperate need of protecting their $100 million dollar investment in Ryan a priority I think Matthews is gone to the Falcons if here is sitting there at 6. He is the most pro ready from a pass protection stand point - seeing as the Falcons are a pass first team.

That seems like a very plausible mock. I doubt there will be less than three QBs taken before us. I could see STL trading out of that spot though.
I think the Falcons will take a pass-rusher. Don't forget that Sam Baker is signed through 2018 - they aren't moving him to RT or spending a first rounder at RT.Also, with the Seahawks being such a great pass rush team, I wouldn't be surprised if the Rams double dipped early on and if the board falls that way, i could see them trying to make a play for Tampas pick. So they lose their 3rd and 6th, but gain Clowney AND Matthews in the 1st. That would leave Tampa with something like this:1:13 - Taylor Lewan (again, Lovie wants to fix O-L and get better. Could see them sending Penn to Miami for a 4th because they need a LT with leadership)1:29 - Tampa trades with New England with its 2nd and 4th - Derek Carr (gives them an extra year of low cost franchise QB)3:11 - Matavius Bryant WR - size, speed and upside.4:16 - Michael Sam DE - Yes they need a situational pass rusher to sub for Clayborn. 5:3 - Deion Belue - CB - A tough tackling Tampa 2 style corner. 6:14 - Khairi Fortt - LB - Cal - Quick and instinctive. Left early, but an interesting project player.7:6 - Tevin Reese - WR - Fast late round wideout.
I don't care where the Qb's go but I do believe 3 are gone before we pick.1. QB2. TRADE w/ Falcons - Clowney3. QB4. QB5. Watkins6. TRADE w/ Rams - Matthews7. If it falls this way...hopefully we can trade down...if not MackIt will be interesting how different this will look next month....then next monthGO BUCS!!!
The more I think about it, the more I think we're going to look to trade down
So the next question might be what are our real needs? The more I think about it, the more I think we will bandaid our DL in Free Agency, resign Watson to resolve a LB need, get Joseph & Penn to reduce their contracts, and finally be a big trade down player. I mean a lot of trading down. I would trade from the 7th spot to the 25th to 30th pick for another 2nd & 3rd round pick this year. I would again consider trading my 2nd round pick which is spot 38 for a teams spot 50-52 and their 3rd round pick and let the draft begin. With a 1st round pick, two 2nd picks, two 3rd round picks, and 4th, 5th round picks we could fill some needs. I know it's just a dream.

I'd actually rather get a 1st next year (unless a QB falls to us at 7 and Lovie & Co. see him as a franchise QB). First of all, we're in the 1st year of a new coaching staff so if there's a time to take our lumps its now (meaning ride with Glennon). You don't hand Glennon the job, but for some reason people have really soured on Glennon (at least in the media) and he's gone from a potential rookie of the year candidate (which he almost was) to a terrible player (which he wasn't). Now, there might be other options but I'd much rather give Glennon a chance than hand the team to a journeyman like Cassell/Schaub/Vick. Those guys aren't taking us to the Super Bowl EVER, so why not see what you have in Glennon? If we can trade down and get a 1st next year that gives us ammunition to move up and nab a franchise QB next year. No matter what Glennon does, we're in a better position. If he bombs, well he's not the answer and we're in a better draft position. If he is mediocre, we have a career backup. If he's great... well, amazing! The alternative of riding a Cassell to 8-8 for no reason... Ugh.
tog; I don't see any problem with that thinking. Just remember one thing? Bo Jackson and Jamis Winston both love baseball. I could see Winston playing baseball over football. He loves baseball. I am following his baseball path right now and besides being a top reliever he is pinch hitting and getting some out field playing time. I don't see improvement in his football skills anymore because he is not in a full time off season football program except for a few days practice for the Garnett & Gold Game in April. I believe he will lean towards baseball over football.
Although Smith has everyone looking for the Bucs to prioritize a QB pick I think if top three are gone before we pick I see a DE getting selected. If we have a shot at Carr after that then Tedford gets Carr.
