Disregard the Coaching, what are our needs? It appears that Glennon needs more game experience and I don't see a QB worth taking at the 6th-8th spot, so that leads me to pick the best OL in the 1st round. Our OL looks slow and it might be time to start replacing a couple of them. I think we should pick up a QB in Free Agency and let Glennon and that player determine who will be the starter.

WR and DE. I'm sure a lot of the Niners defensive success was from Glennon holding onto the ball too long. Got a hunch a lot of that is scheme but also WR not winning/getting open. Even with MWill we have talent deficiency; Glennon hasn't shown he can make it happen on his own very often.
Wide out and O-line must be priorities if we are sticking with glennon, also a TE like Ebron would be nice

Agree with all this...give the kid some weapons.Defense is stacked, sure you could make the argument for a DE, but I haven't given up on Clayborn and Gholston looks like a find.
1) DE2) OL3) CB4) WR5) Blocking TE
Coach, O-line, DE, QB, maybe one more OLB.
I'm thinking that it might be time to start the OL replacement and most of those rookies need 1-3 years before they are starters so I am thinking that maybe we should take that 2nd round pick and try to produce a 3rd round pick by trading down, but not out of the 2nd round; same for doing the same with our 4th round pick in picking up another another 5th round pick. We could then take a 3rd, 4th and 5th round pick and start rebuilding the OL. Penn has one more year; Zuttah 2-3 years; Joseph 2 years; my opinion. I think we should spend that first round pick on a fast WR.
1. DE2. WR / TE / OL3. LB4. CB / DT
At the risk of being cliched, the biggest thing we need is a new coach and GM. I'd like to keep our current scouting corps though. On defense I would be going all in on the best DE we could get, and then maybe a journeyman CB. Other than that we are set or stuck there. On offense I disagree with the FOTM prescription of adding a TE. Everyone wants one because they see big numbers coming from that spot but they don't seem to understand why. It's jus like a caveman "Graham makes big numbers must get tight end for tribe uggg! ". That's about the extent of the logic involved for most fans. Our top two receiving threats are already big, slow, use-their-body/size guys. Which is exactly what the best TEs are. Maybe you get the occasional block from the current highly regarded TEs, but reality is a TE brings little that we don't already have, and nothing that we actually need. What we need is a WR. We can use one, and that one needs to be able to do one or both of two things:Run quick precise underneath stuff to prevent too much focus on the routes VJax or mike are running, or take the top off so they can work underneath with less attention or both. When you look at our plays this year, the majority of the time all our receiving threats are at about the same depth. We'll run 4 receivers and all of them are between 15 and 20 yards deep and the only alternative is the check down at the LOS. Much of that is scheme, but much is physical talent. We simply lack a true speed threat, and are not able to stretch it on different levels. A TE isn't going to change that.

I agree with your assessment ...what worries me is even if we get the WR you mentioned we'll waste him running these stupid long ISO routes and not utilize his skills properly ...which all goes back to needing a new coaching staff.
+1
The thing is, even a 1st round DE is going to take 2-3 years to develop. And I don't see a DE in that Top 10 range worth taking who has enough upside for us to wait that long. Clowney if he drops, but I doubt we will be high enough in the draft even then. I'd be OK with Barr or the kid from Buffalo as well, but they really don't fit our scheme and might not be worth the premium pick for us. I think in terms of impact positions of need we get the most value out of this draft targeting someone like a Sammie Watkins to be our third WR or even Mike Evans (who I think could be developed into a TE). Talents who have the potential to be Pro-Bowl caliber type players while still filling a glaring need.I do think OL can be justified in this draft, but with Penn and Dotson, we aren't necessarily dire there (and you don't want to draft a guard type player in the top 10).So I say (based on likely draft position)1. WR/TE2. OL3. DE4. Strong-side LB (where someone like a Barr MIGHT fit if we went that direction)5. CBQB could also be a need, as I'm not sold on Glennon, but with the way the draft is shaping up, with our positioning, and the prospects for next years QB class to be pretty epic, I think we are almost forced to roll with him for another year to see how much/if he can improve to franchise level this offseason
Top 10 WR is a crap shoot. I think that top if R2 would feature guys who could help us more even that some of the more highly regarded WRs. The draft might not fall well. We need guys to start declaring because right now as the QBs go back the top of this draft gets really thin.

Is it though?2013 - Tavon Austin looks like a stud2012 - Justin Blackmon's talent can't be denied. He's just a liability off the field, but you knew that going in he would be a problem2011 - A.J. Green and Julio Jones are both studs2010 - No top 10 WRs (but Dez Bryant would've been if not for his off-field issues. and he's still a stud. Also probably why the Jags saw fit to ignore the off-field stuff with Blackmon a couple years later)2009 - Heyward Bey 5-years ago is where you're argument starts to come into play. But even then he was considered a major reach by the Raiders heading into the draft as top 10 with most projecting top 20. Crabtree has been pretty solid however2008 - No WRs in the first round at all2007 - Calvin Johnson is enough said. Ted Ginn Jr. I will give you however (although he's getting a little bit of life with the Panthers)2006 - No WR in the top 102005 - This is the year where I think this crap shoot for WR comes from as Braylon Edwards, Troy Williamson, and Mike Williams (USC/Detroit version) were all drafted top 10. And all failed miserably. But look at the rest of the top 10 and there aren't very many good players this year period to be honest. It was actually a fairly lousy first round overall2004 - Larry Fitz - stud. Roy Williams was a stud for the team that drafted him then somehow lost a step and fell off a cliff in Dallas. So in the last 10 years of Top 10 WRs you haveStudsLarry FitzCalvin JohnsonA.J. GreenJulio JonesArguments can be made to include in studs or duds for whatever reasonTavon Austin (has looked the part this season before his injury)Justin Blackmon (talking on-field talent only. his issues should've been what pushed him down but didnt as they were predictable)Crabtree (Best WR on Super Bowl team - I think outside of his injury he has played just under his draft position)Roy Williams (Lions version was a stud. Cowboys version was a dud)Duds/BustsHeyward-BeyTed Ginn Jr.Braylon EdwardsTroy WilliamsMike Williams (3 of those all in the same year however)Honorable MentionDez Bryant - who dropped significantly because of his off-field issues but was a consensus top 5 talentIncluding that dreadful 2005 definitely makes it look like a crapshoot, but if you exclude that, and pay attention to character (which hasn't been mentioned as a problem for any of the top WRs in this draft) there is a pretty good batting record for Top 10 WRs and their impact on their teams - especially in recent years as NFL passing game rules have favored the position even more. Just think we need to think best "value" available (value meaning best talent who fits into the scheme we run), and the way it looks to me right now, it just seems the talent at the WR position where we are currently projected to be drafting outweighs any other position. It could (and is likely) to flip upside down however.
