I'm a Vandy guy, so I've seen Matthews play just about as much as you can. I've watched them since 1987, and he's the best player they've ever had. The amazing thing is that he's put up the numbers he has with just marginal QB play (Jordan Rogers and Austyn Carta-Samuels were gritty, solid QBs and leaders but by no means great passers). And especially this year - everybody knows he's going to get the ball.  And yet his numbers are incredibly consistent. He doesn't have off-days, and he doesn't pile up insane numbers against terrible teams to skew the stats. He makes the clutch catch routinely - this is 4th and 11 catch against double-coverage. to set up the game-winning FG in the finale against Wake - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWI1mwe1pTQ And then there's this huge catch on 4th and 18 late against Ole Miss, that allowed us to take the lead (we botched it on defense and lost). To put it in context - Matthews had dehydration issues all game and had to leave at one point for an iv. 2 plays before this one, he caught a ball over the middle and was hammered by two rebels and barfed his guts out right on the field. He left for a play, came right back in an did this: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2013/8/30/4674808/jordan-matthews-catch I only saw him drop one ball that mattered.

The other things I've seen, and I haven't seen a ton of Vandy games, but he isn't getting open because of some Air Raid type scheme - they run a pretty standard scheme. He is earning those catches. Plus, he seems like he is a good blocker as well.

That's right - they do some things occasionally to get him the ball - bubble screens, quick throws, end-arounds, but it's mostly straight-forward stuff. Franklin saves most of the gimmickry for the run game (wildcat, e.g.).

If we could somehow trade down just enough picks in the first round to regain our 3rd rounder..and...improve the pass rush  (Barr, Mack, Murphy, Ealy),  I'd have no problem drafting Jordan Matthews in round 2, providing he'll still be there.  Looks real good.  Being a cousin of Jerry Rice shouldn't hurt.  Thanks for posting Booker.

Not a bad idea at all.  Or even if we could trade down far enough to pre-emptively grab Matthews in the 1st round ahead of teams in the late 1st like the Pats I might be OK with that.Definitely appreciate the posting Booker

We have some outstanding talent that's not being used to it's most advantageous schemes. It appears our current staff is seeking to mold what we have into their dream of how to win instead of looking at the strength of what we have and making better usage through schematic design.
