Rays control Smyly through 2019. That's one answer.Nick Franklin, switch hitter, some power, seems to possibly be a potential Zobrist replacement Back down in AAA now.Adames is 18, Tigers #3 prospect.
Sorry, there's NO doubt in my mind that none of the players we acquired will ever be half as good as Price is on a position by position basis. We got hosed badly, this wasn't even close. We didn't get any sure fire prospects. Smyly seems like a #5 SP with our staff anyway. Franklin is having a horrible year, and he is suppose to be the "centerpiece"? What a joke. Franklin is a good player don't get me wrong but you cannot convince me that trading Price who's having a terrific season for a #5SP, IF who's having a bad season, and a 18 yrs SS prospect amounts to a player of Price caliber. We're done.Anyway, so I guess we don't have high expectations from Hak-Ju Lee anymore.
pretty sure we were gonna lose Price regardless. Most likey Rays wouldn't even pay his arbitration salary next year so basically we got SOMETHING which is much better than getting nothing.
And they wonder why they cant get attendance up or get any support for a new stadium? They trade away key players as fans get attached to them. There is no way you can possibly build any loyal fan base in this manner.
I don't mind the trading of Price. But you got to do better than that. They should have gotten several top prospects for Price. The Rays could have waited till the off season and probably gotten just as much if not more. This is close to being as bad as the Magic's return for Dwight Howard.

Rays were last in attendance in 2013 while winning 92 games and making the playoffs. Keeping Price for 2 more months was not going to get the Rays out of the attendance cellar, which is where they are at today. They've got loyalty with the fans on TV with high ratings , but the only thing to get attendance up at the game itself is to move out of the depressing St. Pete warehouse they're in now and move to Hillsborough Co. or another market entirely. You tell me who's holding up progress on that front, Pinellas, Hillsborough, the Rays themselves, or some combination? Being competitive in the AL East with their low budget in comparison to the Yanks and Red Sox has been truly remarkable. And the only way to have any hope of maintaining some semblance of that competition level is to sell high and buy low. That's what happened today. One can argue they didn't get enough, or could have gotten as much after the season, but moving up in the league attendance ratings has proven to not be correlated to success on the field....in St. Pete anyway.
