Here's a good science and technology news that the politics of the day will prevent most people from seeing. I partly post these things just because I hate politics so much!

Because of the wavelengths of light, chip based spectrometers weren't practical. But, someone found a trick to circumvent the problem! The solution was to use optical switches instead of a system of mirrors. The optical swtiches are probably magnetic or electric light interactions.

The possible applications is remarkable. One could have cellular size spectrometers inside the body to determine chemistry.
