McConnell has a much money as Trump and UNLIKE TRUMP a long history of winning.
If you look at his recent comments about the Jan 6th investigation, the strategy appears to be to let the Jan 6 investigation take out of diminish Trumper and maybe Trump and retake the Senate in 2022, perhaps on the belief that Trump will run and lose in 2024.
That he’s arguably winning the battle (or that Trump is losing) can be seen in Thune announcing yesterday that he will seek Re-election. Thune is a harsh Trump critic AND heir apparent to McConnell. He was particularly vocal about Trumps attempt to use the House to overturn the election. Trump lashed out at Thune, says he would get primaries, even asked Noam to run.
None of that happened. It might now, but if it does not that will be a sure sign of Trumps waning power. A sign that McConnell may be the bulwark to save the republic (crazy)
