Great mathematics videos(and science) are far and far in between. This is one of the greatest. It shows how mathematicians have been able to classify knots in terms of a hyperbolic spaces. Warning, this is a mindbender!
I tried to read William Thurston's 3d Geomeetry and Topology book. I got through it, but I don't think I understood it very well. I should commment about it a little bit. Topologists were able to make a classification of all 2d spaces back in the late 1800s. William Thurston accomplished the same feat for 3 dimensions. His work partly led to the solution to the Poincare conjecture a decade or so ago.
