I remember the exciting idea that life might have originated in the deep sea vents; recenlty, some have tried to argue against it. This proves the deep sea vent idea.
I think this ancient protein can also prove the Stuart Kauffman chemical cycles theory of life as well. Kauffman shows that if you get a sufficent diversity of molecules that makes one another, they self assemble into a complex whole - a living thing. Proteins first(and this isn't the first scientific finding pointing to proteins first life) would support Stuart Kauffman's complexity theory.
