Personally I hope the trial of the Police Officer in Minneapolis get put off for some time like 2023.
The officer is charged with 1st degree.
In many states if the charge is 1st degree and the jury finds 2nd degree or manslaughter, the defendant walks.
I don't actually know criminal law for Minn.
But you know the attorney for the Officer will probably be from the police union and he is going to play that tape of Floyd when he is first arrested a few times for the jury because it shows Floyd actually acting irrationally and it shows Floyd saying "I can't breath" while still standing..
And then the defense will get some doctor to talk about how Fentanyl can kill and if one starts to complain about not being able to breath, as the effects of Fentanyl in the body gets more pronounced, the ability not to be able to breath can become more severe, to the point of death.
You need 12 jurors to agree to 1st degree. If one juror holds out and there is a lesser sentence or God forbid a verdict for the defendant,
Then I think there will be even greater rioting and violence than we are seeing in the last 7 weeks.
This is all speculation, but you can assume that the lawyers for the police officer will be more skilled than the lawyers for the state. And what I have speculated on could come about.
And we all will suffer if the looting and rioting based on the trial verdict is even worse than now.
