The GOP approach is predictable. They elevate an African American Senator, Tim Scott of SC, BECAUSE THEIR GOAL IS TO PUT THE BRAKES ON ANY MEANINGFUL REFORM and they think it will come across better from a "black man."
Here's Tim Scott this Sunday. Pay close attention to his words and notice him putting on the brakes:
"[Scott] called for the government to collect more data on police use of force, as well as misconduct, to help guide a decision. “Is there a path forward that we can take to look at the necessity of eliminating bad behavior within our law enforcement community? Is there a path forward? I think we’ll find that,” he said."
Collect more data so we can look at whether its NECESSARY to put effort into eliminating bad behavior?
How do we know that is the GOP PARTY LINE and not Tim Scott speaking from the heart?
He's from North Charleston. Look up North Charleston police use of force and you will see a video taken JUST LAST MONTH of an excessive use of force case. If you read the story you will see that the African American community leaders speaking are from his church and from the local government (meaning he knows them very well)
Look a little further and you'll see that in 2015 the North Charleston police force was involved in a the murder of black man, Walter Scott, during a traffic stop
Tim Scott actually authored the Walter Scott bill to create a database that he says we need now, lol. PATHETIC. This is typical GOP smoke and mirrors
THE POINT: Tim Scott knows very well that HIS OWN HOME TOWN POLICE FORCE has a serious, documented use of force problem, so he KNOWS they dont need more data to see whether there is actually a problem.
