I remember seeing this effort to make a technical history of physics really - the Mechanical Universe. I watched a few episodes on my local education channel. I'm sure it has been taken down. I know that it has been put up and taken down on youtube many times. Finally, someone convinced Caltech to put them up and leave them up on youtube!

The one area I've always expressed disappointment with this video is the treatment of cosmology and unified particle physics. They touch on black holes.

I also express disappointment that nobody has been able to do this for mathematics. I think it can be done. I think I can cover the ancient history and maybe even some of the modern stuff. I've read everything from E.T. Bell's "The Develoment of Mathematics" to Van Der Waerden's "Science Awakening" and his other technical history books. He stopped with Algebra; but, there's other sources on the calculus, or what mathematicians like call Analyses. I've also dived into a good amount of John Stillwell's books. But, I need to maybe re-read and finish a few other books. I know it seems preposteroius, but I think I might be able to actually make a mathemmatics equivalent of the Mechanical Universe!

I thought I'd try to show my re-organization of the Mechanical Universe. They've got episodes mixed up out of order both technically and historically. This is probably under the influence of Richard Feynman himself!
