Manziel , Bridgewater, and Bortles vs. Mariota, Winston, Hundley and Petty. If you are going to do whatever you have to to secure a "franchise" QB like many are calling for. Would you do it this year or next?Me....Mariota or Winston please.
Our chances of picking high enough to get Mariota or Winston are slim and none. Lovie will win 8 to 10 games minimum no matter who the QB is and we will be picking around #20.
Lineart was one of those "wait 'til next year" QBs. So was Teddy...
I don't see us bombing out next year... realistically I have to go with the QB's this year. But the 2015 QB's are more desirable.
Wait for the 2015 crop
I think we have to make an attempt this year. If one of the top three don't fall to us, then maybe take a shot in the middle rounds on a guy like Garoppolo, Mettenberger, or Fales. Ot if not then, maybe in the late rounds take a guy like Wenning, Renner, or Savage....but I think at some point we have to draft a QB this season.
Next years class always looks better. Until next year comes.
Wait until they have a 3rd round pick to spend on a QB from NC State...
I got some dot connecting for a late round QB for this year Wyoming's Brett Smith. Supposedly Wyoming was trying to hire Tedford this year for HC and he was talking to them. After reading about Tedford I would imagine he studied Brett Smith who hadn't announced he was turning pro. Brett Smith didn't get an invite to the combine which is crime he is 100% better QB than Morris and Thomas who showed how bad they are at the Senior Bowl.Is it stretch...probably but I like this kid I watched the Nebraska game live and the kid has quick release, accurate, good arm strength and is mobile. Check his mentions on twitter and a couple of draftnik guys talk about him as a poor mans Manziel.
This years draft is packed with a lot of guys that can turn out to be good at their respective positions with the right system and coaching. A lot of "diamonds in the rough"...if you will. There really is only one "elite" guy that I want and thats Clowney. And he even has some question marks - what motivates this kid, why all the drama of taking yourself out of games etc. Anyway....I hope that the new GM takes into account next years QB draft class and is somehow able to stockpile some picks to make some deals next year. I know, its easier said than done because most teams, year in and year out, at the top of the draft normally takes a QB. I think that Glennon can be a good QB as he is very smart and sees the field well. But I'd like to take Winston or Mariota next year which would mean we would need to be top 5 next year, if not the top 3.Again, I don't want Lovie to go 2-14 or 3-13 his first year in as I think that Lovie and the staff he assembled can get it done. Maybe he can build a D that is equivalent to the 00 Ravens that all we would require is a QB that does not lose it for us.But yeah - get a QB in the later rounds or even go after Vick in the offseason (fine by me) and get Clowney this year.
I would wait. The QB's in 2015 are far better then this year's crop. Even if, and that's a BIG IF, Winston doesn't declare next year, I would prefer one of the other three over this years QB's (with the exception probably being Teddy). If we're in the 15-20 range, and desperately need a QB to get over the hump, trade up to grab one of the top 3 or 4. It would also give the new regime a chance to work with and evaluate Glennon for an entire year.
