The Bucs offense is and was 1/2 an offense.  Last year the Bucs couldn't run and actually gave up running (pass/run ratio roughly 66/33).  This year Canales is trying to make the offense a full or balanced offense, but with no real change in talent.

Last year the Bucs coudn't run even though they only faced 8 man fronts about 20% of the time.

This year they have been facing 8 man fronts about 14% of the time.

Why would anyone expect 1/2 an offense under Mayfield to perform like or better than 1/2 offense under Brady?

Canales has done a good job getting Evans involved more BUT the offense still has the same CORE weakness?

White has had marked improvement in his running and isn't running soft anymore after pewterreport reported on him being soft from coach Peete. These guys just needed fire. I expect us to draft a rb this upcoming draft just because of how seattle's offense loves drafting rbs. White avg is higher because he is hitting holes and putting his body into guys, hes actually running like 220 instead of 200 which have led to his higher ypc

The team has mid tier talent and ceiling has been 9 wins for the last 15 years sans first 2 years of Brady.

People’s minds may have been skewed given those 2 years of Brady but Vegas had us at 6 wins this year and it’s likely we end up in the 6-8 win mark

Given we can all agree we have the best QB play in the division, we have a chance to win this turd division

We can also all agree that either Philly or Dallas will smoke us in the first round and this team isn’t on the same talent level as Super Bowl contenders

Gee whiz...I don't know.

Maybe, just maybe, it's because it's not the same offense.

Maybe because it's not the same 5-6 plays just ran over and over and over again.

Perhaps, it's because the OC has installed passing concepts that actually consistently schemes guys open.

You know, minor differences.

Hey Mr. Football Acumen . .  an offense (the scheme and plays and even calls) can be different  BUT if a FUNDAMENTAL aspect of the offense is still missing its still going to struggle because its ONE HAND TIED BEHIND BACK

They are both still 1/2 an offense and the one half that was working (the passing game) we subbed in a re-tread for a GOAT

How can someone like you deny that to be true OTHER THAN because it just pains you?

The running game is better in 2023 than in 2022. Canales offensive scheme has WR's running open through opposing defenses. The Big difference is that tunnel vision Baker doesn't see those open WR's. It is because Baker zeros in in the primary WR. Defenses playing zone see where Baker is looking and converge on that primary WR. Baker's stats are worse when opposing teams play zone vs man to man coeverage.

Exactly.

This was never the case last year.

So, yes, one could expect a halfway decent QB to meet or exceed last year’s offense (considering how QB friendly it’s been in the passing game).

the running game is better?  lmao.  barely.

let's see.  Bucs average 85 yards a game on the ground which is third worst in the league. 25 attempts per game which is 7th worst

last year they averaged 77 yards a game on the ground which was worst in the league averaging 23 attempts per game which also was worst in the league.

so what does this tell you.  The Bucs are running it more, 2 attempts per game and getting 8 yards more per game.  They are still dog shit in running the ball.  Actually run it more and not getting the bang for their buck.  Last year - last in attempts and last in yards.  This year 7th worst in attempts but somehow 3rd worst in yards.

I think all you can fairly say about the running game at this point is that it is TRENDING better with White running for 6.7 and 4.2YPC that last two games

not much of a sample though

It would make sense though that the offense overall would improve over time . .  because its a new offense
