yes that seems very politically correct way of him saying “thanks but no thanks”
Sounds like a case for trading back if the players they want aren’t available at #26.“Licht says the offensive tackle and offensive line classes have a lot of interesting players. The receiver group is good too, and both edge rusher and defensive tackle classes have some good depth too.”

With the release of Shaq I am thinking the Bucs go edge in round 1. If the Bucs can't land their edge rusher targets in round 1 they probably trade down and draft two OLB and then fortify the rest of the offense and defense (eg interior OL, WR,TE, QB, RB, ILB, CB, S).
“We’re focused on signing ours right now,” Licht said Tuesday. “I mean, if we can re-sign Mike [Evans] and Baker [Mayfield], Lavonte [David] and Chase [McLaughlin] and Antoine [Winfield] and Tristan [Wirfs], we should be throwing another [Super Bowl championship] boat parade. That’s a pretty good class there.”
--i mean damn man, exaggerate much. The team barely won more games than it lost in 2023 (albeit one of our most successful pathetically) and basically .500 the last 2 years. The bare minimum is keeping these players to have a chance at competing for a playoff spot.
Superbowl? yeah you better knock the draft out of the park this year and add a few other key free agents to even think that's a shot. The class of the NFC remains the 49ers, Eagles, and Cowboys so it's not a gauntlet to try and overtake but talent wise we are far from the 49ers roster.
I can see how reading a transcript would cause someone to draw that conclusion. I watched the broadcast - I think Licht was referring to IF they were able to sign all of our FA’s - that would be reason for another boat parade.“We’re focused on signing ours right now,” Licht said Tuesday. “I mean, if we can re-sign Mike [Evans] and Baker [Mayfield], Lavonte [David] and Chase [McLaughlin] and Antoine [Winfield] and Tristan [Wirfs], we should be throwing another [Super Bowl championship] boat parade. gotcha. i still dont agree. it doesnt seem like a hard task at hand and seems like a loser mentally that it would still be successful if we dont retain all of them. All of these guys want to be back and we have the cap room to accomplish it.
I’m simply happy that Licht mentioned they’ve already started talks with Wirfs.
Him and AWJ being the 2 best and most important players on team, it’s good to hear we may be doing new contracts and avoiding the tag on Winfield.
Don’t mind backloading their contracts.
While I’m not the biggest fan of backloading Evans, I get it.
Baker’s will be the biggest gamble and I’d rather it be even as possible, if not front loaded so we have an actual out.
LVD should be another simple one year deal.
Very reasonable.
“Bit of a longer-term look at Bucs cap situation. They face the following 2025 dead cap hits RN:
Barrett $17.4M
Godwin $18.9M
CD3 $8.1M
Wirfs $1.1M
Gage $3.6M
Jensen $11.8M
Nelson $2.7M
That’s a total of $63.4M. Cap could be as high as $275M which can mitigate some of it. Gage can be cleared with a release this yr. Similarly, if they move on from CD3 this year and would clear the 25 dead cap by accelerating it to 24 (and still save 24 cap).
If they extend Godwin before his deal expires they would spread his hit back out to its current proration.”
