what happens this season where anything short of ten wins and a deep run into the playoffs is “failure?”

So, you’ve now referenced this multiple times.

Since “coach speak” is your gospel, why don’t you go ask Bowles if getting bounced in the wild card this upcoming season will be viewed as a success?

We’ll wait…

who is we? lol.

we are posting about completely different things I think because I don’t get the “coach speak” reference.

I am posting ABOUT THE BOARD and what it will be like with the group that TROLLED the game day threads IF that is the sincere expectation

you seem to be talking about the team. The team has high expectations for sure. They also do not post on the red board

i hope they get it 12 wins aka failure plus 2

Season: 12-5

this would be awesome

and yet only 2 games away from "failure"

oh. ..  and that is IF and only IF they go deep in the playoffs?

:-)

I get the feeling I'm missing an inside joke.  Which is cool.  Eventually I'll probably figure it out.

And I get that 12-5 seems a little (maybe a lot) optimistic.  There could be critical injuries that could derail the season.  Baker and/or the key skill players might not adapt well to Coen's much more complex offense.  The defense might all apart.  DEN/ATL/CAR/NOR/NYG/LVR might all catch fire and crush TB head-to-head.  A giant meteor might crash land in your stadium.  There's a ton of variables I didn't account for or foresee.

Just saying that it could happen about the way I sketched it out, and the results aren't unreasonable, imo.  Conservatively, I think 9-8 is the floor for TB, assuming no giant rocks fall out of the sky until after the SB.  10-7 is what I'd put $$$ on.  11+ could happen if the ball bounces favorably more often than not for TB in 2024.

But at the end of the day, TB has a better than average roster, particularly in key positions on both sides of the ball, and several promising rooks like Barton and J. McMillan that should make some noise in 2023.  GM Licht basically killed both the draft and FA.

You have a decent schedule that starts off with several home games right off the bat, which should give the new OC and new offense a little better chance to get sorted early.  Your BYE week occurs at a really favorable time. Then after the SF around midway through the season, you have just two more '50-50' games; the other 5 games you should be favored by significant margins.

Realistically, I don't know if they could have more favorable circumstances to win 10+ games.

Sorry I was joking about the fine line between your 12 win scenario (great read) and in this thread the marker for a failed season which was anything below 10 wins and a deep playoff run.

I am hoping you are right. And I agree it’s not unreasonable. Sort of what makes it great to watch. A break or two either direction can really change a season

No, we're not.

Unlike you, my stance was crystal clear.

A worse record than last season would be a failure. Not returning to the divisional round this season would be a failure.

I mean, if we get bounced in the Wild Card round, it was a successful season, right?!?!

I'll gas up my Yellowfin and make sure the coolers are stocked for the boat parade.

No worries.

I didn't see the bit about a 10 W season being a 'failure,' but I mean with the new playoff set up where 7 teams in each Conference get to play for the right to go to the SB, a 10 W season basically gets you in, so I do's see how that would be a failure.  Maybe it's me or I'm missing something.

I really think 11 Ws is a strong possibility; Baker managed to scrape up 9 Ws (10 if we include playoffs) in an offense that featured the league's least efficient run game and was apparently 28th or 29th using pre-snap motion.  And Baker was supposed to be a PA QB only (lol at that) that required a strong run game to succeed at all, similar to Ryan Tannehill.  Well, he proved that wrong, in spades.  And you can check the gamelogs; in games where Rashaad White managed to average at least 3.7 yds/att (well below league average, but that was just enough), Baker played fairly well, and TB won nearly all of those games, iirc.  Without the benefit of pre-snap motion and without being able to call audibles.

Coen's offense, that should put TB up in the top-10 in terms of pre-snap motion (LAR averaged ps motion about 75% of plays) and somewhere better than 20th in rushing, should give Baker enough breathing room to improve upon his performance last year.  Sure, there will be some clunky games; comes with a new offense/new OC.  And a lot depends on how quickly and smartly Coen and Baker make adjustments when things bog down.  But I really think they'll be mostly ironed out by Week 10 or so.

Main thing is, Baker can't get seriously injured.  The OL will probably have a few snafus early on while they get used to each other's strengths/weaknesses, and Baker will have to navigate those without getting hurt or consistently giving up negative plays.  They have to win the games they should win, like vs. WAS/DEN/NYG/CAR/LVR.  They need to win about half their 50-50 games (DET/PHI/ATL/DAL/LAC).  And hopefully squeak out a W r two vs. the teams they aren't supposed to beat.

Simple. lol.

Some would say “funny” would be an inability to admit that you called for Trask to take over in October

funny might also be saying regular season winning percentage determines the best team ( but now a deep playoff run matters)

funny might be saying playoffs would matter … if only the Bucs were a young team.

Funny.

Then shit or get off the pot, Captain Morgan.

IN YOUR OWN WORDS, what would be a “successful season”?

In the predictable diatribe that you’re about to post, try and include a record or playoff round measurement.

Sure.  Whatever floats your boat.  Obviously, having a really good roster and a solid defense makes everything a lot easier for any QB.  Of course, you also need a certain caliber QB to lead the offense.  Good thing Baker was available to fill that role.

I remember you adamantly stating that wins weren’t a QB stats. So, just wanted to correct your mistake.

That being said, hope your 12-5 prediction comes to fruition!
