I don't think this will be an elite unit this year, but I'm not exactly buying that our defense is completely terrible. In the third quarter last week they shut out the Saints, and in this 3rd quarter this week, they almost held the Eagles scoreless until they scored a TD with 10 seconds remaining. This is an encouraging sign.
Our inexperience in the secondary is concerning and will be picked on throughout the season, but I think our guys are capable of playing fast, physical, and smart. The winning formula for us on defense this year is going to be
- David and Kwon blowing up plays behind the LOS to keep the offense off schedule.
- JPP and McCoy finishing timely sacks.
- Evans, Davis, and Smith continuing to be aggressive on the ball. They will get burned from time to time and I hope they stay aggressive to produce some momentum shifting turnovers.
Looking forward to a great test against Pitt!
