Maybe this should be obvious but I am baffled on something. While I know the fullback position is going out of use in the league in some spots, what I don't understand is WHY it seems to be "fazing" out. The fullback blocks for the runner wherever he goes, is a good pass protector against the blitz in a way smaller backs often can't be, and with good hands is a great safety valve or flat pattern for the quarterback to throw to. Moreover, if you need that tough yard, he is an ideal fit to pick it up. Even in a pass happy league, it seems that having a FB brings you a composite of things in one person that other positions can't without having you tip your hand...Was just reading some thoughts from the chat about when when our FB Lorig left, and found myself wondering.Call me old fashioned, but if people would have some thoughts on this I'd appreciate it.
