I just can't think of anyone who has gone from college DT to NFL 43 DE and been successful. The reason people kick DE's inside is to exploit an athletic edge over the OG's. Moving Donald out reverses that. He has short, very short, arms which means that it will be easier for OT's to control him.I love the kid as a player, if I was Dallas I'd be praying to some sort of god at night that he fell to me at 16 because he would be perfect for them....but he just doesn't fit here. It seems like a waste to take a potentially elite 3 technique and chnage his position.
moving Donald to DE would be just dumb. no two ways about itit wastes his talent
The best pass rushing DE in the NFC is the Panthers Charles Johnson. He has averaged 10 sacks per year for the last 4 years. He is 285lbs and 5/8" taller than Donald. Same exact arm length. So please explain how Charles Johnson can be an elite pass rusher DE in a 4-3 defense.....but a nearly identically sized Aaron Donald cannot. I'll wait. ;)
SPEED.You can't be serious with this idea.
Speed? That is your answer? Ok. Well let's compare Charles Johnson's combine #'s to Donald's tomorrow and see if that holds up. Here are Johnson's numbers.40 yard - 4.84 4.6810 yard - 1.63 1.59Bench Press - 33 35Vert - 34" 32"Broad - 118" 116"Three Cone - 7.5 7.11So far Donald is almost identical in size and has slightly outdone Johnson with 35 bench reps. If he is as good or better in all of the other events tomorrow, can you admit that Donald at DE is a legitimate plan? If not, why?
Hmmm....
LOL, if there was ever a time to keep your Donald gif signature, it was while he was working out. I wanted to send it to my brother. Plus, your new sig is ugly!
He has short, very short, arms which means that it will be easier for OT's to control him.
His arms are 32 5/8". That's average for a DE.That is equal to Scott Crichton an Dominique Easley. Less than an inch shorter than Mack, Barr, and Murphy....and that is probably not because his arms are actually shorter, but rather because his barrel chest sticks out further than those other guys. His arms are not short.
we arent taking him at 7. its not gonna happen. theres no value there at allnow if we trade back to the 20s or late late teens then maybe
theres no value there at all
C'mon Dex. You aren't usually the type for over exaggeration and hyperbole. I'm not saying take him at #7....but you know your statement isn't true. Ideally I wanna see us trade back a few spots.....then try to trade back again a few spots. Get Donald and gain some additional picks. I know you can't predict that type of thing because it takes two to tango, but ideally that is what I would like to see happen.
You know you are really alone on this. I've been pinging a couple of of the draft guys in twitter asking about positional versatility. One gap NT in a 34 is a maybe no one thinks he can transition to a 5 technique let alone a 43 DE.
I could see Cowboys taking Donald at 16

His natural landing place. I'm guessing every mock draft from here on out has him going there.
Dee Ford not medically cleared, back issue from 2011, to go today. Now here is a question, if he falls on that medical (which obviously didn't affect him in 2012 or 2013) is he a guy we look at at 38? He was, alOng with Donald, the star of the Senior Bowl week.
If we can upgrade the O-line in Free Agency and get a WR too....I'd be all about Donald/Ford or Donald/Attaochu in the first two rounds.
I personally think Donald at 7 is a better pick than Watkins at 7
Man, Clowney is clearly a freak of nature, but Donald has been super impressive.
I really like Dee Ford has real pass rush ability. Just hope his health is ok.
