I'm not offended, JD. I don't get offended by opinions about football players. I just think it's bizarre. You started by taking an outside-the-box, minority opinion - a creative way to think of Donald in a Bucs system - which is based on basically a comparison of combine numbers and weights between Donald - who as far as I can tell has never played DE - and guys who have played DE much of their careers. I don't agree with it for a variety of reasons, but one will suffice - you are taking the best thing the guy does away from him. But hey - you made your best case. But over the course of the thread you've flipped it so that somehow it's become barely tolerable to see a guy who just about everyone believes is the best 3-tech in the draft as an actual 3-tech! What's more amazing is just about the entire board loves Donald, and somehow you've managed to turn into you against the world.
Lol, yeah it is funny. A lot of us love Donald. But JDub is like my one kid when I say no in the grocery store .... "Daddy hates me." We love you JDub. We just want Donald at DT, not DE. Kapeesh? No chocolate bars in the checkout line for JDub!!

Sorry you see it that way. It wasn't my intention but you aren't the only one annoyed with me, so maybe I am coming off wrong. Donald has proven himself to be a great pass rusher from the UT spot in college and that is where he is ranked as a top 3 guy at his position in this draft. Not as a DE. He is clearly a great UT in the mold of Geno Adkins. He'd be the consensus #1 DT if he was 20lbs bigger and a few inches taller. I am in noway trying to twist any of that or change the reality. My whole point is that a great pass rusher is a great pass rusher. We already have a great UT, but does that mean we pass up the best pass rusher on the board when we pick because he was a UT in college? Khalil Mack spent 50% of his snaps running around in coverage and played almost entirely as a linebacker. He is a top prospect as a 3-4 LB....but many think we can just take him and he'll be an amazing 4-3 DE for us. I haven't watched as much Barr, but I'm pretty sure he played mostly linebacker in college too. These guys aren't even use to putting their hand in the dirt, and are being projected as top 10 picks as 3-4 OLB....but again, everyone here seems to think they can be made into 4-3 DEs no problem. Maybe they can. My point of view, is why should it be different for a guy that played UT in college and is being projected as a top UT, when his only knock is that he is too small? He puts up movement numbers that equal the top pass rushing OLBs like Barr and Mack even though he is way stronger and 30lbs heavier....but he can't be a 4-3 DE at the next level? I think that is ridiculous. And by the way, he did play DE quite a bit in college. He played all over the line at both ends and both DT spots and he was dominant from every spot. Go watch his games. I'm not just making this stuff up. So I really am sorry that you feel so negatively about this thread and my posts, but I'm not going to apologize for my PoV. I think Donald might end up being the best pass rusher in this draft, and I want us to draft him and play him at LDE on 1st and 2nd downs, UT on 3rd downs. I think all the facts point to him being able to do that and do it very well. The end.
Aaron Donald the best pass rushed in this draft class? Are you freaking high or are you just still throwing out as much crap as you can hoping some sticks? You haven't changed at all! You and all your I like this person and that person is fine but damn man you have a love affair for almost half of the damn players eligible for the draft. It's like you think you are some scout running your own business. Why hasn't ESPN asked you to do the draft for them, hell why haven't the Bucs hired you as director of scouting. Aaron Donald is a nice undersized DT, he is not the seventh best player in this draft and he is not the best pass rusher in this draft. Clowney when his head is in the game is by far the best pass rusher.I know how sensitive you get when people don't bow down to your run-on sentences and why played A is better than player B because you say they are so please do us a favor and try to limit who you want at pick #7 to say under 100 guys.
Donald does look like a great player and has the potential. But at 7 or even below 20 i don't think he is worth the risk in one of the deepest drafts. He seems like a player that could slip just do to size alone. You have a lot of meathead GMs who want to get the biggest and best. There is definitely a good chance he makes it to the Bucs in the 2nd round.

LOL.....good post.Jdud has lost his freakin mind.
JD, I don't feel negatively toward you, the thread, or your posts in general. I don't think you should apologize for having a point of view. I just thought it took some weird turns. The biggest source of confusion for me is this - why not just let him rush wreak havoc inside full-time? He's the best inside pass-rusher in this draft and we don't have anything next to McCoy. Why make it unnecessarily complicated.
Because J Double is the who's who of saying what each player is best at, c'mon man

You rail on me for a paragraph for thinking I can scout and having my opinion.....then follow it up by telling me your opinion like it's law. You have any idea how ironic that is? I disagree with your opinion of both Clowney and Donald. It's ok. Simmer down.
It's because he got schooled earlier on the under alignment , and he knows the people talking about the huge value difference of the 3 tech and the nose had a point. The nose is not a playmaking position , it's an eat blockers and hold your ground position. That's why he's trying to move him outside now. LOL
Nice try Mel McShay wanna be. I am stating fact not opinion. Clowney is a supreme talent that's why people would take him #1 as a PASS RUSHING DE. Where is your latest flavor of the day ranked? Oh yeah that's right he is a DT. Last I checked you don't draft DT over DE if you wanna rush the pass. Unless of course you are playing against Tebow as he has no idea what happens outside of the guards and center.

I'm not purposely trying to complicate anything. It's just that the NT doesn't usually get a lot of pass rush opportunities on 1st and 2nd down and I'm not sure there is a value in taking a 4-3 NT in the top 15 of the draft anyways. As LDE, he would be on the field every down and be getting penetration and sack opportunities at a much higher rate. If he was just going to play NT full time, then it probably wouldn't be good value to take him that early. Also, if he'd have shown up at the combine at 295lbs or more, I would see him as purely as a DT and wouldn't be talking about him as a LDE at all. He apparently is at the right weight for him though, so I don't think asking him to add another 10-15lbs and play NT is a good idea. Makes more sense to me to let him stay in that 280-285lbs range where he is naturally comfortable and have him rush from the LDE spot. I think he would eat the lunch of every RT in the NFL. The fact that he put up such ridiculous movement numbers at the combine just solidified my stance. Just my opinion of course.

Are you kidding me? A DT that can stuff the run and rush the QB is twice as valuable than a pass rusher. Not about sacks. It's about disruption. Sacks are nice but give me a guy that throws a QB off of his timing, forcing incompletions and INTs, all day. A guy that can do that by brining the heat from the middle is even more valuable because it destroys the pocket and directs the QB towards the DEs. Not sure if you know football as well as you think you do. For the record, I was a big fan of Star coming out last season but Red Board told me that NT was not important in our scheme.

Honestly man, I fully understand your opinion and why you don't agree with mine. What I don't get, is why you have to be a completely disrespectful as$hole about it. Did I do something to personally offend you or something? I'm having a hard time understanding all the hate in your posts.
I remember when everyone loved the giants nascar rush. Not sure why mccoy donald couldn't be the inside 2 in that package? I'd certainly be fine with taking donald at 7. Only thing I differ with is wearing him out at LE on rushing situations. Use gholston for that. Keep mccoy and donald fresh for passing situations. Win games with 3rd down.

Agree with these guys. The Seahawks won with rotational guys. We have rotational guys and Donald wouldn't be a bad rotational guy. In fact would be an awesome rotational guy for third down. Who could stop a line with McCoy, Donald, and if we could sign a guy like Allen. It would be a tough line to stop. Third down dominance wins games and division titles.
