Who's going to get more sacks coming off the edge ? Mack or a DT you move out there ?On run plays does Donald help us stop the run anymore than Spence ? You can Mancrush all you want , but Donald doesn't fit our needs right now, and 7 is too high. Period.
i disagree with a lot of this. weve got spence to stop the run, we arent drafting donald to stop the run.
The point is Jdud was making the case that we could play Donald at Nose on running downs and LE on passing downs.
I'd like the dancing bear if we could trade down a bit. Dude looks crazy tough and hungry. Watching Seattle's line dominate Peyton really makes me want the same for TB. Pick up a stud DE as a FA, and draft dancing bear at 20 or so, and I'm a happy camper.
No. I said just the opposite. Inside on 3rd down. Outside on 1st and 2nd downs.....just like we used Bennett in 2012 and 2012.
I don't put any stock into how tall a guy is. Its not like somebody snuck into Donald's room one night and cut some of his legs off- he has always been that height and has learned to deal with it. Shorter guys get better leverage anyways. He would not be my first choice at 7, but I would take him over Mack or Barr. I'm not sold on either of them being full time DEs in a 43 and don't want to take a sam at 7. Donald has the weight, power, and quickness to make the move to DE.
jdoub - i read that attaochu didnt perform because of hamstrings? any history of that? i know hamstrings can be chronic.
I'm not sure GT. I haven't seen anything about injury problems for him. Looking at his game log, he missed 6 games in 4 years....but I don't know if they were from injury, or if so from what type of injury. *edit - Found a lower leg injury in 2011 that caused him to miss a few games, but that's it. He didn't miss any games in 2012 or 2013, so I don't think injury is a concern.
So on passing downs you are going to waste his talent at a position not best suited for getting after the QB ??Awesome . Why don't we just draft Ebron instead and make him a short yardage blocking TE. LOL......good lord, the arguments you will make to land a mancrush.

Pretty much every team that runs a 43 pulls the nose for a faster rusher on obvious passing downs.

cmon. you are just arguing to argue. i completely understand jdoubs point, and heck, i jokingly made the same argument for mccoy a couple years ago when he was getting injured. if we have a guy that can get after it from LE and DT then why not? i would just rather keep it simple for a young guy and keep him fresh rather than putting too much on his plate.
I think your letting Aaron Donald's Senior Bowl performance cloud your judgement. The kid is good but no way he's better than Louis Nix or Timmy Jernigan.
His tape this season is better than either of those guys. The only knock on Donald is his height, if he were 3 inches taller he'd be picked ahead of them (he still might be). The senior bowl performance just solidified what his tape showed.
Who was he playing against at the Senior Bowl. I want to see how he plays against top talent. No doubt he a really good prospect. The thing here is unless Donald drops to the 2nd round or the Bucs trade back he has zero chance of being a Buc. I can't get excited about a player that will be playing for another team.

There's no proof he can get after it from end .....he never has .... and his short arms don't suite going up against tackles. NT is just a waste of his talent ."Weaknesses: Limited scheme projection Lacks scheme flexibility For the NFL, Donald should be a three-technique defensive tackle in a 4-3 defense. If a 3-4 team is comfortable with an undersized nose tackle, he could be in play there, but that is the exception rather than the norm. Donald doesn't fit as an end in a 3-4 or a nose tackle in a 4-3. Using him in a role other than three-technique in a 4-3 could be a waste of his skills." http://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2014adonald.php You are thinking too much. Draft BPA , and that won't be Donald at #7.
I've seen no one say, and I have asked a couple of former NFL scouts (via the magic of the twitter) if he can play DE. No one other than our boy here seems to think he can. Love the player but not the guy for us.
My thinking is that with McCoy and Donald crashing the right side of the line on just about every snap, we are going to force QBs to move left towards Lavonte David and Adrian Clayborn. A hurried QB moving to David's side of the field and throwing under pressure sounds like a great thing to me. Hopefully Adrian could live up to his draft status and take advantage of this by cleaning up with a double digit sack season. cause there would be a lot of QBs rolling out to their left. If Lovie doesn't think Adrian can, then maybe we need to sign a stud RDE in free agency, and we most definitely need to sign some depth at NT.....but McCoy and Donald would be collapsing one side of the line. Would be great fun to watch. On 3rd and longs with McCoy and Donald in the middle.....oh my.

Of course . He's the only one with the Mancrush goggles on....
why do most every 43 team in football pull out their big NTs on passing downs? i certainly dont believe that we should draft him to eat up blockers for mccoy. but is there really not defensive passing fronts that take advantage of inside penetration? i find that hard to believe.i also question the idea that he isnt BPA. the guy won every award in college football and then just wont the sought after and prestigious 'best combine' award.

Wrong. The truth is his arms are 32 5/8" which is average, not short. He played all over the line in college, including many snaps at DE and he was very productive from the end. Three of his 11 sacks came while lined up at DE.If you don't like the guy, it's cool. But don't make sh!t up just cause you don't like me and you wanna bag on anything I say. It's childish.
