I think some are getting off track on donald as a DE also. No one is saying convert him. Many are saying we think he could give us valuable snaps at LE - as well as both tackle spots.

agree with all of this. Clowney is certainly a better prospect. But he is not as good a player. He hasn't been coachable yet, so what changes now? As much potential as he has, and he was held to 3 sacks. The guy just does what he wants. Which is great at times, and invisible at others. But teams are always game planning for him.

You mean invisible like Donald in 2012 , when he only had 5 sacks ?

Sacks went from 10 to 5 and back to 10. That tells me he beasted as a sophomore, then Ds adjusted to him as a junior, and finally he took it to another level as a senior. Also love the steady increase in TFL, culminating with him leading the nation. Gotta love it when stats, measurables and whats inside the head come together to create a force of nature. Now pull the trigger @ 7 baby!

if clowney was able to get 5 sacks I might think he had a solid year, but he only got 3. Donald might have been held in check in 2012, and if he came out last year I would not have wanted to draft him. This year makes a lot of sense imo.

Only it wasnt twice as many. Lol. It was a lousy 5 sacks...although that was better than 2010 when he only had 2 sacks.Looks like Donald takes seasons off also. What a heartless bum . Cross him off the list.

Oh ok. Wasn't sure what we were talking about. Stats definitely are not everything when projecting a guy from college, but from 2011 to 2013...                    Clowney          Donald    Tackles            130                  170TFL                  47                    63Sacks                24                  27.5FF                    9                      6PD                    7                      9As far as Donalds dip in 2012, he switched from a 3-4 DE to a 4-3 UT that year so there was probably some learning curve for him and the entire defense. He still managed 64 tackles, 5.5 sacks and 18 TFL though....so it wasn't a bad season. Just not quite as amazing like 2011 and 2013.Clowney's 2013 was weak and not even comparable. 11 TFL and 3 sacks is not usually the stuff of legends and sure fire #1 picks.

Donald reminds me of Lamarr Houston being a DT that can adjust to playing DE. I wouldn't take him at 7 but trading back with someone who wants Evans could be ideal.

I think even trading back for this guy is a risk, if they want him they need to take him at 7, and hope a team does not take him before then.

Steve White wrote that Donald is prone to loafing during games. White liked him a lot and had mostly positives to say about Donald other than this section.I am not going to go overboard with it because if there is a play to be made within about a five-yard radius of him, Donald does indeed haul butt to the ball. Still, I can't overlook the fact that if it's not immediately apparent that he can make a play on the ball, Donald shuts down early. The most disappointing thing to me is that his loafs were not anomalies. That is just the way he played in all five of the games I broke down. There are times when the play is still going on and Donald is literally walking. WALKING!!! What part of the game is that? I saw one play in the bowl game against Bowling Green when he shut down his pass rush after the quarterback rolled away from him. Had he been going full speed, he would have had a great opportunity for a sack because the quarterback eventually pulled up and held on to the ball for too long.Instead, Donald coasted then tried to speed up when he saw the quarterback pull up, but he ended up getting there a step too late.I get it. The guy makes a crap load of plays just about every game. Unfortunately, when you think about draft picks that were busts a common thread is usually their lack of hustle or work ethic. If a guy never shows up on the screen when the camera cuts to downfield plays, it should make you very nervous to draft him in the first round. It is what it is.As much as folks talk about Jadeveon Clowney's effort and whether or not he was trying to protect himself (though I disagree with much of that), you can legitimately question if that was what Donald was doing, and that is not a good thing.

Detroit @ 10 or maybe Tenn @ 11 if either gives us an xtra 3rd or 4th. Wouldnt want to risk dropping lower than that. Then we can use the next 3 picks on WRs and interior OL. Thats my 1a scenario atm.
