You know, JDub, I meant to tell you a story I heard over the holidays about Donald.On Sirius NFLRadio, Pat Kirwan was interviewing Coach Fisher. Pat asked if the Rams had Christmas Eve and Christmas off. Fisher said they did a walk-through on Christmas Eve and had given the team Christmas off. However, there was one guy still in the facility, late on Christmas, watching tape.Aaron Donald.
I know I'll catch shit every time I bump this thread.....but I don't care. I think we will regret passing on Donald for the next 10-15 years and even after that when we all watch him put on the yellow jacket and pose next to his bust. I really think he is that special of a player.
Loved him and probably would have drafted him, but I am happy with Evans. I had these as my top two rated players when we picked.Evans actually worked out better for our future IMO, mostly because we re-signed McCoy and got McDonald in free agency. What I dont understand are the ones talking about Williams this year. He has a fraction of the talent of Aaron Donald. It's ludicrous.

He went where I expected him too, in the teens.But we can't bitch about Mike, he has turned out to be a great pick.
It's nothing against Mike. He looked great as a rookie.
As good as Donald is, and he is great, how does he impact games. You have to win individual matchups in the secondary and have a QB to spin it. That's the way the league is. 20 years ago the Rams would be an elite defense. Now they're below average despite having a monster DL. If you can't cover, you can't play defense. Period. In 1999 with Sapp being DPOY we almost won the Super Bowl. That team playing today would suck. Dilfer and King at QB, plodding Alstott between the tackles 4 yards at a time. Dave Moore, Patrick Hape, Bert Emanuel, Reidel Anthony and Jaquez Green running routes. That team would have been 2-14 too.
Very interesting JD.I was just thinking as I was breaking down Vic Beasley the other day. He is such a great athlete with great short area quickness, and superb cover abilities. But he is the classic tweener. He doesnt seem to have the strength or the bulk or a big enough frame to increase his bulk that he would need to be an edge rusher at the next level.If a guy like that slips to the 2nd round why not convert him to a 4-3 MLB? His cover skills are amazing. I could see him as a Bobby Wagner type of player. I can just imagine that after a few years under Hardy Nickersons tutelage Beasley could become the best MLB in the game. Feasible?
