The best pass rushing DE in the NFC is the Panthers Charles Johnson. He has averaged 10 sacks per year for the last 4 years. He is 285lbs and 5/8" taller than Donald. Same exact arm length. So please explain how Charles Johnson can be an elite pass rusher DE in a 4-3 defense.....but a nearly identically sized Aaron Donald cannot. I'll wait. ;)

Speed and quickness. Donald has enough to beat guards..tackles are better athletes.
If he can play end sign me up!
Donald has a better quickness/power combination than anyone I've seen in this draft. There is no reason he can't be our DE and rack up the sacks and pressures. He has the build of a giant linebacker and moves like a linebacker...but he has the heavy hands and power of a DT. I don't think we've met with him twice to play NT. That's all I'm sayin.
Im not sure if he doesn't have the speed and quickness, good pass rushers are good pass rushers imo
a line of gholston-mccoy-donald-clayborn would do pretty well on passing downs i would believe. spence stays for short yardage, and we pick up a speed rusher to compete at RE.

SPEED.You can't be serious with this idea.

You have anyone else that thinks you can just swap a DT to DE and magically get the same production? Do you think Sapp or Atkins would be or would gave been as good at DE? Frankly GMC seems more fit to plat DE than Donald and his stubby arms.

Speed? That is your answer? Ok. Well let's compare Charles Johnson's combine #'s to Donald's tomorrow and see if that holds up. Here are Johnson's numbers.40 yard - 4.8420 yard - 2.7710 yard - 1.63Bench Press - 33Vert - 34"Broad - 118"Three Cone - 7.5 So far Donald is almost identical in size and has slightly outdone Johnson with 35 bench reps. If he is as good or better in all of the other events tomorrow, can you admit that Donald at DE is a legitimate plan? If not, why?
It's not a legitimate plan. Why would we take a DT and move him to DE? In the first round? Where do they do that at?You want a 280 lbs DT playing DE trying to chase down Cam Newton? Really?
Donald is a DT..why move him? Maybe kick him out for a bigger front/look...but why force him to learn an entirely new position? Heck, it took johnson 4 years to get to double digit sacks and he was already a de

Ok. So even if all the facts say yes, you still won't admit it is a valid plan. Gotcha. Thanks for being honest.
"the facts" are using one person as an example when you don't even have the whole data set

For one, he is not built like your typical DT. He is built like a 285lbs linebacker. Secondly, if you watch all his games, he was actually used outside at DE quite often and he was very effective. It's not new to him. Here are 10 games if you are really interested. http://draftbreakdown.com/players/aaron-donald/

Facts say if a guy is slow enough to be DT in college he'll be an even slower DE in the NFL.
