Interesting breakdown on QB Power rankings for 2024 - would argue with the ranking of Baker - but not too much. I'd say they undervalued him by somewhere between 3 to 5 spots (rankd him behind Kirk Cousins, Geno Smith, Anthony Richardson, and Kyler Murray) - but won't argue with the specific analysis.

FeelingDangerous isn't going to like this article. They have Baker behind both Jackson and Tua.

Just had a minute to read up a bit on 2024 Franchise tag, I see a method for why the Bucs might use it, or at least threaten to use it, on Baker Mayfield.
If Tampa Bay uses the franchise tag on a QB m, it would have an immediate impact of $36m on the Bucs cap - it would also allow the player to immediately negotiate with other teams, and if he signs an offer sheet from another team, the Bucs would have 5 days to match it…
Here’s the new twist: …if the Bucs decide NOT to match…the player can sign, but the Bucs would then get TWO first round draft picks (the article I read did not specify if the any of the picks would be during the current year, but I assume one of them would be).
it would be costly, it would carry a big price tag for any interested team - causing them to factor in the salary AND TWO first round picks - likely dampening interest and angering the player. It doesn’t seem like it would establish real value for negotiation because it’s overly heavy-handed, giving the Bucs a lot more leverage on the player, assuming the player wants to remain with the team.
It’s risky, I hope it’s just for leverage…but I see how Buc brass could see a silver lining in it. I also see how the Mayfield bargaining group would see it is dirty.
lets see how it plays out.
here’s the article:
Thing is 2 First round draft picks. Shit you could give me 5 and I still wouldn't take it. They could ALL turn into 5 FIRST ROUND PICKS Like....Josh Freeman, Jameis Winston, Trent, Dilfer, Steven Young, Williams, Ryan Leaf, Kenyatta WALKER, Gaines Adams, Mark Barron, Devin White. Sorry, I went over. Point is the draft is a crap shoot. Tom Brady and Purdy Say Hello. Im ready to go all in on A Guy. Not roll the dice over and over again trying to catch like 12 birds in 1 bush...I know how that could blow up in our faces..or not. Never know.
Agree. We don’t have an option at backup, nor do we have access to get one of the few risky, but serious, QB’s in this years draft.
If you’re looking at this draft, it looks like Baker is a better option than anything we have access to - and if you’re looking at FA he’s better than those options too
the devil known is way better than the unknown devil(s). I don’t care what BA says about
Point is the draft is a crap shoot.
To many football fans, the draft just equals hope and change.
Even though the math doesn't support the move, many fans are eager to trade payers away for picks (they would never get for the player anyway) because they think of the pick as more exciting (hope and change) than the prospect of the player improving etc. Some fans would also just cut some players "on principle," actually frustration.
Teams/Coaches dont really have that luxury
Regarding depth at QB, I do think some good QB talent will fall to round 3 or later. Although I am beginning to like our current depth, it’s always good to draft a QB when it’s a “loaded” year.
just not sure how loaded it is with starting level talent?
The most likely QBs to become Buccaneers IMO are Rattler or Pratt in the 3rd. I agree that the depth beyond the top 3 or 4 is perhaps not as "loaded" as previously thought. Licht and company like to utilize the Senior Bowl to evaluate their players, and nobody blew the doors off during that week. I think none of the trio of McCarthy, Nix and Penix are going to come in and take the NFL by storm. They'll be serviceable, but if we are looking for a guy to develop for a couple years down the road we may be just as well off with Pratt or Rattler.Regarding depth at QB, I do think some good QB talent will fall to round 3 or later. There is literally ZERO chance that Licht uses the tag on Baker.
And, if he does, he should be fired on the spot.
- The market for him would be minimal at best
- No team in the history of the NFL would risk TWO first round picks for Baker (Lol...I mean, come on)
- It would completely screw us from a cap perspective this year
More and more rumors stating that it'll be in the neighborhood of Geno's contract (perhaps a bit more). Which is fair, considering Geno's "resurgent season" was actually better than Baker's.

Thank God you're not the Bucs GM. Lol.
If Licht were offered 5 first round draft picks for Baker and he passed, the entire city of Tampa (at least the smart ones) would riot and burn OBP down to the ground.

JL has “professional training…I don’t, I’m more scared I’d screw the picks up” if I knew I could hit home runs reliably…then hell ya…gimme some pics. But Ballerz “potential” to me is worth a “great deal.” Just sign him as Justly as possible and call it a day…jump in your pool, dry off…and do it again. Ez

..but you’re right, tag is too costly, (I do find it interesting that you think Baker’s worth more than the two…).
If the Bucs use it, Aafeties are much more affordable (sorry AWJ).
Cooler heads will prevail, they just can’t resist the drama.
I don’t think anyone on the Bucs is off limits for 5 first round draft picks
sure we wouldn’t want to lose some such as wirfs, Winfield, Evans, Vea, etc but 5 first round draft picks can really help build the team for years to come
i like baker but shit, one first round draft pick for him and I’m saying goodbye to him
(I do find it interesting that you think Baker’s worth more than the two…).
Umm…I don’t.

There’s no player in the league not named Mahomes who’s off limits for 5 first rounders.
