If the reporting on Evans is accurate then Mayfield is already likely agreed in principle because there should be no way Evans signs back here without Mayfield. That would put him with NO quarterback and a new OC.
ย
Russini's reporting (mentioned in an other thread) that Mayfield will not take a hometown discount could also be interpreted as Mayfield's agent shaping the news before it comes out.

Reading into Mike Evans' agent's comments
Agents are, well, agents. Their job is to get their clients paid the most money possible. So their comments can't be taken as gospel.
Still, we must examine the comments made by Deryk Gilmore,ย who told Jordan Schultz, "[Evans] doesn't want to play with a rookie QB. Winning a Super Bowl is a key priority."
If that is one-trillion-percent true, then it means that Evansย knowsย who will be playing quarterback for the Bucs next year.ย
There's reason to believe it. Evans' career began with Josh McCown, Mike Glennon, Jameis Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick as his quarterbacks before Tom Brady entered his life. He managed to produce at All-Pro levels during those years, but the Bucs also went 34-62 in his first six seasons.
Now with one Super Bowl under his belt and a chance to cement his case as a Hall of Famer in the coming years, the 30-year-old Evans very likely took seriously the matter of which quarterback will be passing him the football before he put pen to paper.
At the same time, a two-year, $52 million deal speaks for itself. So it remains possible that Evans signed it with the hope that the Bucs' front office would sign either Mayfield or a similar-caliber quarterback.
I really dont want to sign mayfield for 35M+ and think that can get us back jordan whitehead and passrusher in FA. We have a strong enough core to keep winning with a decent qb

well at $35M + , one would think we would just franchise tag him at 1 year, $36M deal.ย i think that's the going rate.ย If Baker really is that greedy, then ok, let's see you prove it again on a 1 year deal.
because of that, i doubt Baker's number is higher than the franchise tag number.
i more then anyone enjoyed last season but you dont do what the Giants did and cripple the franchise on a "gut feel"
Baker played well but am i confident he will replicate it next year or improve upon those numbers?ย heck no.ย I'm certainly rooting for it.
i think the contract is likely already a done deal.ย Many of us expected Mike in the $25M range at 3 years and he ended up at $26M with only 2 years.ย
Many of us think Baker will be in the $25-$30M range at 3 years.ย Shouldn't be too far offย
ย
Wilson to be released.ย
โWhat I'm getting is that Winfield, not Mayfield, is the immediate priority for Bucs between now and tomorrow's 4 p.m. deadline to use the franchise tag. They'd like to work out a longterm deal resetting the market for safeties but will tag him if they can't.โ

โWe're picking up very credible indications that Kirk Cousins is planning a potential move of his family from Minnesota to Atlanta.โ

๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฆ: The #Buccaneers and star safety Antoine Winfield are zeroing in on a multi year contract that could look something like 3-4 years worth $20 million per season, per Tony Pauline. ย
โThe word in the Circle City is that the deal looks like it will be in the area of three years, $60 million, an average of $20 million per season. Sources tell me a fourth year could be added to the contract.โ

Somewhat different perspective . It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I mean Winfield has been nothing but consistent and is young. We should definitely prioritize signing him to a longer term deal
mayfield, as much as I am a supporter, had one good year after a rollercoaster of a career thus far so other than the salary cap, heโs the one that would be most comfortable with a 1 year deal.
that being said i think both come away with at least 3 year dealsย

If Baker thinks hes that guy, and wants to go to the highest bidder he can, but hes leaving an organization who believes in him and has a solid core of leaders who probably would have had Trask perform at an equal level(because I truly believe he beat him out on the field not off in training camp). So I dont mind rolling with Trask and a first round qb next year itll be exciting. 35 million can be spent on 2-3 playmakers. Because after Ryan neals season I dont want a vet min safety get me back Whitehead

itโs good to believe in fair tales.ย
baker back to Bucs is a done deal. Iโm sure it will be a fair deal to both sides.ย
I agree that 35M is too much but Bucs will look to Russell Wilson or Ryan tannehill before they turn to Trask. Some fans may need an anvil to fall on their heads with that dream lolย
ย
Welp, looks like Baker is going to be the Bucs QB for the foreseeable future.ย Only question remaining is how much meat he left on the table cap-wise, to sign other critical players.
ย
Congrats, Bucs fans.ย Now just need to do something about the running game, shore up the IOL, plug a couple holes in the secondary . . . should be a fun draft for you guys.
ย
ย
We'll check back in around the end of the first quarter.

ย
Peace.

Actually, Mike came in way lower than that with an AAV of $20.5M for 2 years.ย
Hoping Baker comes in lower than expected too (incentive-laden like Mike's).ย
Wilson hitting FA, and most likely coming at bottom of the barrel pricing (due to the contract situation with Denver), doesn't do Baker any favors if he's looking to hit the jackpot.ย
Again, more leverage for Tampa.ย
That being said, I think the deal is already done and has been.ย
