“What I'm getting is that Winfield, not Mayfield, is the immediate priority for Bucs between now and tomorrow's 4 p.m. deadline to use the franchise tag. They'd like to work out a longterm deal resetting the market for safeties but will tag him if they can't.”

- Per Auman

I mean Winfield has been nothing but consistent and is young. We should definitely prioritize signing him to a longer term deal

mayfield, as much as I am a supporter, had one good year after a rollercoaster of a career thus far so other than the salary cap, he’s the one that would be most comfortable with a 1 year deal.

that being said i think both come away with at least 3 year deals

If Baker thinks hes that guy, and wants to go to the highest bidder he can, but hes leaving an organization who believes in him and has a solid core of leaders who probably would have had Trask perform at an equal level(because I truly believe he beat him out on the field not off in training camp). So I dont mind rolling with Trask and a first round qb next year itll be exciting. 35 million can be spent on 2-3 playmakers. Because after Ryan neals season I dont want a vet min safety get me back Whitehead

it’s good to believe in fair tales.

baker back to Bucs is a done deal. I’m sure it will be a fair deal to both sides.

I agree that 35M is too much but Bucs will look to Russell Wilson or Ryan tannehill before they turn to Trask. Some fans may need an anvil to fall on their heads with that dream lol

Welp, looks like Baker is going to be the Bucs QB for the foreseeable future.  Only question remaining is how much meat he left on the table cap-wise, to sign other critical players.

Congrats, Bucs fans.  Now just need to do something about the running game, shore up the IOL, plug a couple holes in the secondary . . . should be a fun draft for you guys.

We'll check back in around the end of the first quarter.

Peace.

Many of us expected Mike in the $25M range at 3 years and he ended up at $26M with only 2 years

Actually, Mike came in way lower than that with an AAV of $20.5M for 2 years.

Hoping Baker comes in lower than expected too (incentive-laden like Mike's).

Wilson hitting FA, and most likely coming at bottom of the barrel pricing (due to the contract situation with Denver), doesn't do Baker any favors if he's looking to hit the jackpot.

Again, more leverage for Tampa.

That being said, I think the deal is already done and has been.

According to Scott Reynolds, the Baker camp and Licht and Co. are not close regarding extension.

"Pewter Report has spoken with multiple sources recently and while there has been some progress since talks began in earnest at the NFL Scouting Combine last week, the Bucs and Mayfield’s camp were very far apart to begin with.

How far? Nearly $20 million apart.

Pewter Report is not sure which side made the initial offer – whether it was the Bucs or Mayfield’s agent, Jack Mills. But Mayfield’s camp opened negotiations with an offer rumored to be at $44 million per year. The thinking there is that Mayfield is a better quarterback than New York Giants starter Daniel Jones, who makes an average of $40 million per season.

Tampa Bay is rumored to have either countered – or started – with an offer of $25 million per year, which is the Geno Smith contract."

Nearly $20 million apart.

if they're $20 mil apart, and Baker's camp opened at $44mil, that would put the number at $24mil, which I think is the max the Bucs go. Maybe add incentives to increase a tad, but no where near $35-44mil.

He will come to his senses and take the reasonable deal the Bucs offer. You ain't getting a long-term deal buddy

lmao. $44M.  yeah the Giants were foolish to give a 15 TD pass guy $40M a year.

Bucs offered $25M.

Let him test the market with those expectations and maybe we give him each day that free agency goes on, it goes down $500K per year treatment. or is that too nasty to treat your potential starting QB haha

Baker should top out at 25-30m. He's insane for wanting 45m.

Draft a QB. Penix in the second

Daniel Jones sucks, so does the Giants management, that's a very poor contract for comparison. Geno Smith is a far more fair comparison. I said it before, I believe $30m is a fair number, or a bit less less with incentives to achieve just north of $30m. Max 3 years. Total $90m, with $40m guaranteed.

It seems that Mayfield and his agent want to test the market first which is why they opened with such a high offer.

Send Baker Mayfield packing. All the teams that have had him and he tries to collect the bounty off the very last team. Screw you Baker and get your Arse out of tampa. What a miscarriage of justice. I am no fan favorite of an idiot who gave them a second breath of fresh air. Go away....
