The consensus here when Otton got his extension was that he was overpaid at $10 million per. At $10 million per Otton takes up about 1% of the Bucs cap and he is paid as sort of a TE2+ if you look at the market now. So, in hindsight the extension was smart and almost sub-market on a going forward basis and that is the thing that most seem to miss ("going forward basis"). Otton is not some dynamic MOVE TE, but he's not paid like one either.
In recent article JQ estimated that Diaby would be about $27-30 million per, but that was based on the MARKET for an Edge2 rusher. Many balked at the idea of paying Diaby basically the market rate for his position
When Mayfield was up for his prior extension emany freaked out at the idea he would maybe get $40 average. I think he got $33 average but even $40 would have had him around #15 so sort of where he belonged. Now its $55
All NFL players make stupid $ and everyone understandably always wants better players than what we have, but its probably not a winning strategy to refuse to pay players the basic market rate. That was sort of the Culverhouse Method lol
