Could save a lot of money by letting Baker walk and losing enough games to get a shiny new QB - and then lose another year to draft another LT & RT, and another couple of WR’s… why, in 10 years we could…Yes. Almost all guaranteed. By that I mean 80% or so.We're going to find out, because he'll get his deal and it will be very close to the going rate of the market for a top five QB whatever you want to say that is.
Wait.
You were saying he'd get 5 years at $300M and that it would be guaranteed.
So which it is?
Josh Allen six years 350 mil with 250 guaranteed.
Dak Prescott 4 years at $60 mil per almost completely guaranteed.
Brock Purdy 5 years $265 mil with $181 mil guaranteed.
Joe Burrow 5 year 275 mil with 217 guaranteed. That was signed in 2023. Three years later - you don't think the market has gone up? You don't think Baker will get top 5 money? I guess we'll find out this offseason.
Since you want clarity I'll lay it out for you. Baker will get 5 years, $300 mil with 240 guaranteed. That's 80%. Some of that guarantee could be in the form of easy to earn roster bonus like Wirfs got.
Since apparently you disagree, what do you think his numbers will be?
…all be 10 years older. Pardon me, but I’ve heard this song before. It’s Hopey-Changium.
Glad your strategic input is nowhere near 1Buc.
do it.
you either have a franchise qb or you don’t.
we are blessed enough to have 2 in a row, neither drafted by us. Some organizations are cursed and have never had one.
Yeah, I believe our own Bucs qualify for the list of NFL teams cursed to have never drafted a franchise QB (or an edge rusher, for that matter).do it.

But, it’s probably not an issue, like the OP infers, we can just draft any ol’ QB (after we lose a requisite number games), or find another one in free agency, or on the NFL QB scrap heap.
…yeah, what a logical plan. Let the guy we found on the scrap heap, who’s miraculously taken us to the playoffs, two years in a row, and has won 6 games behind a back up o-line, nine of his starting receivers, and his feature back (on his way to another division title and another run at the playoffs).
We should offend the guy, who’s already been offended (by the team that drafted him number 1 overall)…I’m sure that’ll work out just fine. Lots of FA’s will want to sign here. Probably could even lure Kirk Cousins, or Aaron Rodgers down here… maybe even get Tom Brady out of the booth for another season!
What a great idea.
No. If you are picking one dollar less than me then you think I'm probably in the ballpark. If he gets $295 mil that makes you right and not me? Don't think so.Baker will get 5 years, $300 mil with 240 guaranteed.
I’ll bet you $1K it’s less than that.
Deal?
Simply fill in the blanks: Baker will get an extension for ____ years for $_______ million with _____% guaranteed. I'd be interested to see how close your guess is to mine.

Wouldn't do that to you, kiddo.
My guess is that it'll be an extension and added onto the $40M he's getting on his current deal for 2026.
Essentially 5 years (counting 2026) at $248M with an APY of $49.6M and a "total guarantee" of $180M.
So, do we have a bet?
I never bet more than one dollar. But I'll be that dollar.No. If you are picking one dollar less than me then you think I'm probably in the ballpark. If he gets $295 mil that makes you right and not me? Don't think so.

Something I've not seen listed yet is that Tampa has at least a few things going for us....
First Baker has made his rounds over the past few years ( I don't need to re-hash it because the announcer teams do it on the weekly it seems ) but he's seen and knows what the bad looks like... He and his family love the Tampa area, and Baker LOVES the Bucs ! He has said on a multitude of occasions that Tampa lets him be un-apologetically himself, and Baker seems very loyal. All of that said the third thing is the lack of state income tax. I think Baker will likely take a little less money to be here for the long-term, no income tax means he'll not really be losing much if anything after taxes, he can take a little less and look like the selfless guy he is while allowing Licht to continue to extend and add around him, He wouldn't have to uproot his growing family to go to a situation that may or may not work out, while staying in an environment where he is beloved by fans.
Lastly another thing to keep in mind is the happy wife, happy life metric (we saw it play out with Godwin over the offseason). I know things change quickly in the NFL, but it's realistic to think based off recent history that teams interested could likely include NYJ, Pittsburg, potentially Cincy or Chicago depending on what happens with Burrow, and Caleb's continued development. Which after having the temperate climate and year round beaches, that his wife and family would likely not want to uproot back to a cold weather environment. I think realistically he likely will have years added to his deal over the offseason, but I think the new years/money will like be 4 years/200-220 million range. with 160-180 guaranteed.
i'm hearing rumblings that Kyle Trask in leu of continuing his playing career with another team is actually waiting for Bakers contract to expire
Could he be the answer when we let Baker walk?

Praying this is parody. God save your soul if it isn't
Hardy har har. I'll pass on Trask who can't even get signed to a practice squad.Kyle Trask
But in 2023 the Bucs signed a washed up castoff to a one year prove it deal. You know who was excited about that at the time? Nobody.

Guys like Baker don’t grow on trees
he was former #1 overall pick who won a playoff game (with the browns of all teams)
it’s not like he was the typical “bust”
believe arians was interested in him when the browns were shopping him, as a backup to Brady
we got lucky here and you resign him lol

Agree that we resign him and we are fortunate to have him BUT we got him because Bowles campaigned for him. He was available to the entire league.
That's ONE critical job for a HC, bringing in talent. Bowles brought in Mayfield and Canales and Coen and now Grizz
He also brought in our ST coach lol

was it Bowles or was it Licht's and Arian's love affair with the Mayfield?
Also, curious how much Bowles leans on Licht in rounding out offensive coaching staff.
i'd say that about any new head coach on the opposite side of the ball.
I give Bowles credit for being head coach of a team that has consistently won and made playoffs but wouldn't necessarily say he's too involved on the offensive side of the ball decisions.
