Oh, and I will add that the other 31 teams in this league, if they were in our shoes, would have started their second round QB a few games if their original starter went 4-7 to start the season. We are the only dumb asses that failed to do something that looks after the future of the franchise. But at least we got into the playoffs. 👍
Call me crazy, but watching the Bucs start out without wins when I was a wee lad making little signs saying "Go Bucs" (I couldn't spell Buccaneers back then anyways), I have dreamed of actually having something special...a franchise QB. We briefly borrowed one, that happened to be the GOAT, and we traded one away before we realized he could be one (Young), but I want a 10+ year run with a damn franchise QB of our own. I don't want a mediocre-average QB getting us to the playoffs so we can be bumped out every year. I want someone that can get us over the hump every now and then and at least get us to the NFC Championship game and have a real shot at being in the big game. Some of you seem so stricken with PTSD from the lost decade that ended with Arians and Brady that you'll take the scraps from Longshanks table if it means a barely winning season with a trip to the playoffs even though you know we'll be bounced out. Sorry, but watching Baker have a career year and go 9-8 with him only having 8 games that were average or above requiring the defense to win us a game (Panthers), is just not my cup of tea. More importantly, hitching our wagon to the perennial mediocre QB means a lot more barely winning seasons, or losing seasons, and never really getting where we all want to go, while wasting the aging talents on this team.
This is why I wanted Trask to be the starter this year, especially once we hit 4-7, because it would have allowed us to see if Trask was a potential franchise guy or not. And if not, this QB rich draft class provides the potential to find another. But no. Here we are. Some of you wanting to throw 35 million at a guy that can't string more than two good games together and will likely never get us anywhere in the playoffs. Now, we could compensate by having an elite defense (I'm talking one in the class of the Bucs or Ravens from the super bowl years), but we don't have that right now, and there's too many holes to likely make it one in the next year or two. And for the record, a franchise level QB will have 4-6 elite games, 6-8 games that are above average (including elite), with 12-14 games at the average or better level. That leaves 3-5 games for the stinkers. They don't need to be as good as Brady, just a good bit better than Mayfield.
I'm betting Baller can be that guy…he’s eaten a lot of sacks, otherwise the tread isn’t as bad as it should be for a guy with 6ish years…he’s been a back up for a bit of that span also, so if he can learn to better protect himself and eat less sacks, I see no reason he doesn’t have 7+ SOLID years and who knows how many Great ones??? Same can be said for Trask, I wish him well as well*, but if I had to pick one horse,….well I always Love picking on the smallish gritty underDOG!!!! He started in the Pound Hound Brown/s did he not….yeah, give that guy STABILITY PEASE, I wanna be entertained next year and the next and the next.

so, respectfully, this is just wrong.
it’s wrong because the binary premise is false. You Trask supporters keep presenting your argument as it’s either Mayfield OR… looking out for the long-term, which you describe as a franchise QB who leads us on a 10 year run.
it’s NOT either one or the other though.
the best example of the franchise QB you seek is Mahomes. The Chiefs are building a dynasty around him.
They were 12-4 with Alex Smith the year before they drafted him. They TRADED UP from their 27th pick (we have the 28th this year) to the Bills.
the Bills eventually used the traded picks to get Allen a year or two later.
the Lions came close to a Super Bowl with their own Mayfield (Goff)
THERE IS NO “Either” you have the QB now “or” you tank the season … or you stop trying to get to the playoffs … to see what some back up can do.
NFL teams who are still in contention change QBs to WIN. It’s says something about Trask that the Bucs did NOT go to him when they were on a losing streak. It does NOT say the Bucs are ruling out creating a dynasty, it’s only says these coaches (plural) thought Mayfield was their best chance to win.
The Packers chose to move on from Rodgers because they felt Love reached a point in his development that he could win football games. It is possible that Trask reaches that point this upcoming season or next.

exactly
teams win in a variety of ways
Trans don’t say “we may make the playoffs, but we will not win the SB … why go on? Put in all the backups”
we won it all by bringing in a journeyman and a new HC
we won it all by brining in the GOAT
this years SB will be won by a dynasty QB or Mr Irrelevant

Rodgers himself rode pine behind Le’Favre for like 3 years no, and he’s always been douchy to rookie QB’s during his tenure at GB.

Jared Goff? Really? Dude only had 3 games below average in adjusted QBR. I'd take Goff all day every day. And most teams recognize that, when they are 4-7 and the QB play has a lot to do with it, it's time to see what you have on the bench. A lot of teams did this in 2023. Happens every year. When your stater isn't doing it, go to the back-up. If he can't get it done either, move on and draft or FA sign someone else you think can. Everyone is trying to get a franchise type QB to be able to build around. Mahommes is an elite QB, above the franchise level. He's up in that Brady stratosphere. Sure, I'd love to have a guy that good, but I'll "settle" for Goff, or that level of play. Now I have to find my damn eye balls again. Keep rolling out of my head.
you'll take the scraps from Longshanks table
This reference to one of my favorite movies makes your post a great one. Tip o' the hat to ya.
Keep him. Improve the roster and hope for the best. If he regresses, plug in the next guy and move on.but because of his limitations.
He definitely has them, but what is the alternate plan?
Assume we dont sign Mayfield BUT we keep Evans and any others. What do we do at QB?
Up above, Badabing addresses Cousins and Wilson. Maybe one of them? Trask?
I'd probably go Russ if I had to choose in terms of talent. He wasn't bad last year for the Broncos but from what I've read he isn't someone I want in my locker room. Run it back with Mayfield and see if he can improve upon his career year.

are you suggesting getting trask 4 games of playing time was better for this franchise and fanbase than the Bucs making the playoffs, winning a playoff game and having quite frankly are most successful and exciting non-brady led buccaneer season since our 2002 Super bowl. Yeah....you're only on a boat with a few other knuckleheads' there cuz

You're right.... you're a dumb ass
All you Trask schlong slurpers are...
I missed the Packers game, but I was on YouTube and just watched the HIGHLites. Wow, Ballerz showed what his ceiling looks like in that game. I’d take that over Goff ANYDAY, in fact has Goff ever in his entire career had a game as good as Ballerz game vs the Packers…in fact let’s frame that game historically, anyone able to place that among the great qb performances of, let’s say the last 5 years??? That arm taken looked sooo good in that video that I would rather hold onto Ballerz than rolling the dice Anywhere else.

That’s what’s ultimately going to happen anyways, as there’s no upgrade in FA (if Cousins were healthy…absolutely) and we aren’t in the Williams/Maye/Daniels position in the draft.
Continue to build the team. If Baker works out, that’s great. If he doesn’t (history says this is most likely), then we continue to build an attractive landing spot for a rookie or FA quarterback.

no qualms at all sir. Intelligent and rationale take…I think where I differ slightly, is that I’m a wee-bit of an optimist…I snatching victory out of the jaws of defeat-thats the only stuff makes my soul fire up anymore. Anyhoo, I think we haven’t really seen what Baller can do with some stability and the ABILITY to grow, it’s impossible to grow in a system to the point where you understand it on muscle/mind memory-* like driving home after going to the grocery store, you know exactly the way to get there while simultaneously zoning out on other variable-that’s how Tom Brady set himself up to be who he became-effort and consistency-* if he has to change systems every single year, try and forge a new relationship with people you barely know…he’s only been in TB 1 year and he had a record starting year for him and he also broke some league records too, like in the GB game. Anyhoo, here’s my CRAZY prediction, write it dow and save it so we can dig it up laterz if I’m du to eat Crow for this-I love dat taste anyway, I think, JUST IMHO, if Baller can get some stability and consistency first, familiarity with system and players/personnel second, grow and develop both as a QB and a TEAMMATE third, and then last but not least…have more games like the one against GB…you showed what you’re ceiling could look like, then when I started paying close attention vs the stinking Iggles (I had my doubts about your arm talent and arm strength and accuracy-MEA CULPA 6) AND vs the Lions and I saw what I needed to see, in those two games I Think Baller had the highest stats in all the most important categories 9aside from sacks and Unfknfortunately InT’s 😩, can we see THAT GUY, like consistently….i think HE CAN, in fact I believe he just stability and continued trust away from blowing us all away. Oh, back to my prediction. If he does the ^above, he’ll be the best QB in the NFC-if he can only consistently be who he was against GB, the Stinkin Iggles, and The Lions. Those last two were his last two BTW, you start consistency with 1 and then add a 2. Anyhoo…It’s up to Glazers first and JL second to magically make that happen for him….i got my popcorn 🍿 and jersey ready for this offseason firework vs dumpsterfire OofSeason!!!!
Ramon B !98! GOOO BUCS!!!!
