Oh please. This is an ongoing narrative in multiple threads to discredit all things Barron , and this is the 1st time Chancellor was even ever mentioned. The assumption in all these arguments is that Barron has already peaked and will never improve over the player he is now....which is ridiculous. Fact is we don't know how great Barron can be yet , because he's shown flashes of the ability to ne as good as anyone.FRG for one has been on this crusade since day one , simply because doesn't like the value of safety that early. He will never forgive Barron foodbbeing picked early , no.matter way he does. Lol
Annoys me how many of our fans hate Barron and want to wrIte him off already , despite all the flashes he's shown in a horrible scheme...
Its mostly the Kuechly nut huggers. They wont get over it. Barron made great progress in season 2, even with the college coaching staff we put together.
How dare people acknowledge a player not picked by the Bucs has been clearly superior to a player picked by the Bucs.
He's better.. We didn't pick him. Get over it.
Don't worry I'm used to it. I have been following the Bucs the last 15 years.
I don't see much difference (if any) between the technique used by Chancellor and Goldson...I think refs use Goldson as some sort of "example" since he has the history of personal fouls.
The difference is when Chancellor hits someone, he's generally playing respectable coverage, near the receiver, and doesn't have to launch into the receiver. Goldson "covers" receivers with a lot more distance in between them, so when he's hitting someone, he's flying in from 10 yards away and launches himself.
+1Completely accurate assessment. Goldson could get better under the new staff, but he has said he doesnt need to change how he plays because it got him where he is. It starts with him wanting to be a more complete player.
Completely inaccurate assessment...there is a big difference with the hitting technique and it has nothing to do with 'coverage'...If a defender wants to make a big hit, he HAS to launch himself...the difference with Chancellor, and really all the Sea DB's, is that he lowers his shoulders AND leads with them while getting his head out of the way...You can't mistake their big hits for head shots because helmets don't come into contact, and this is how Seattle is allowed to be intimidating...They are obviously very well coached in this department

Acknowledgement is one thing, beating the horse into dust is completely different. I acknowledge Kuechly would likely have been the better pick, but there's a good chance that means we would not have gone after David in the 2nd. Barron/Martin/David was a hell of a draft, lets stop being the jaded ex-girlfriend.

LIES!!!!!!
I don't see Ed Reed or Troy. I think Barron actually compares more to a guy like Adrian Wilson.
I can see that.
My impression of Bernard Pollard is he's a pretty one dimensional in the box safety. If Barron is who they think he is, he should be much much better in coverage.

He's not bad in the shallow zones but he's too stiff and tightly wound to be any good in M2M or running down the field
People seem to think Barron will be one of the better SS's in coverage.

Maybe idiots on here should stop creating threads comparing the Bucs' average players to guys on one of the best defenses of all time. That would be a good start. It's not like I start threads out of the blue on this.

Much of the Barron criticism calmed in 2013 when compared to 2012. He played better, so there was less to criticize and at least a bit of hope that he could turn into that elite player that some stated he would be. You are talking about a very very very small group of posters. Since the beginning of the '13, there has been much more criticism and disgust thrown Goldson's way, and rightfully so. The overwhelming majority of Bucs fans believe that he will continue to improve and should be t least a little better under Lovie/Leslie. Hell even when I was pretty hard on Barron back in 2012, I stated multiple times that in all likelihood, there would be a noticeable improvements l from year 1 to year 2. I say the same now about year 2 to year 3.

Its a little easier to hit someone where you are aiming when you are closer to him. When you are further away, the target has more time to lower his head, thus creating more helmet to helmet hits.

I know you dont and even though you and I do disagree on a few points, I think you make great posts overall. I dont see a problem with bring up our safeties and comparing and contrasting them to the current champs safeties. Its worth discussion IMHO.
Barron was used properly this year and it made a difference. He should be a box player who matches up on TE and RB on 3rd down. I'm very comfortable with Revis man to man, Barron man up on TE/RB and David man up on TE/RB. If we get a couple guys to rush the passer that could be an effective defense for us.The problem is that Barron is a hybrid player and people want him to be the classic single high ball hawk. That's not going to be him, ever. He's going to have around 100 tackles a year and 2-4 picks. But I like him a lot as he can do more than one thing. I believe he is a match up weapon for us against the NFC South TE's.

You know, I don't get involved in flame wars and petty insults on here, but I take offense to being called an "idiot" because you're incapable of understanding the easy-to-read premise of the thread. Every time someone says the name of a Bucs player and then uses the name of another player in the same post, it does not mean they are saying they are the same or equal in talent or whatever.

Im not saying 'distance' doesn't play a role, but minor compared to shoulder AND head placement. To your point about helmet to helmet hits...As a former rugby player turned coach, its obvious to me that Seattle is coached to keep their heads away from contact, just as we are in the helmetless sport of rugby...so even if a receiver has time to lower his helmet, if its hit with a shoulder it is far less likely to draw a flag. This is the big difference between the way the Bucs defense hits (it wasnt just Dashon, think Clayborns hit on Brees, leading with his face) and the way the entire Sea D hits.I hope our boys were paying attention...

For that I apologize, sir.
Well, then, that went differently than most internet interactions! :)

Hello, Dolores? Have you seen where I said I could see Barron turning into multiple Pro Bowler Adrian Wilson and he projects to be good in coverage? OWN IT!!!!!
