young man's league with exceptions like Peyton.

The NFL swings from trend to trend and yes the trend now is young offensive mind. Copy cat league.  The run game was dead a few years ago, But, I think Tomlin is actually much younger than Peyton Reid, Harbaugh(s) plural, Bowles, Quinn

I thought Tomlin was something like 52, closer to Vrabel, for example, then any of those guys.

Could be wrong, but "washed" is maybe a bit much lol

sometimes washed has nothing to do with age

You've been doing it so long you are over it and lost the drive

Signing Tomlin as a free agent, yes i'd be open to that

Trading premium draft capital for him, no thanks

i didnt see that was part of the equation, but yes I would agree.

I wasnt saying even that the Bucs should get him.  I was just saying he is a damn good coach

The biggest knock on Tomlin (after maybe the playoffs) is the fan perception that it is a young mans league. Will be interesting to see if that is the view 10 year down the road.  or maybe even 5.

Young offensive min" is the shiny object du jour and fair enough when you look at some of the very successful young offensive coaches

The Red Board was aflutter over the prospect of Harbaugh coming here.  I thought Tomlin had the edge over Harbaugh (regular season) and even in the playoffs they were .500? I think Tomlin has the better win percentage too. He's a former Buc.  But he seems to be a "no" compared to a Harbaugh "yes."

Maybe its the playoff difference.

a few things here

1 - as i've said multiple times like a broken record, the draft capital is a go versus no go here.  Getting Harbaugh for free versus having to go give up a 1st and 2nd or similar to that for Tomlin, no way

2 - Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game since January 2017

3 - Harbaugh deals with Lamar Jackson who give-ths and take-ths.  He is an MVP type QB but is good to miss 5 games a year.  That's typically hard to over-come

4 - Since 2018 season, call it 8 seasons:

Harbaugh has finished first in the division 4 times, made playoffs 6 of the 8 years; won more 11 games+ in 4 of the seasons. Won 3 playoff games, lost 6 games

Tomlin has finished first in the division 2 times, made the playoffs 5 of the 8 years; won more 11 games+ in 1 of the seasons. 0-5 in the playoffs

To me, the Tomlin name is living off his longevity of not having a losing record; but his teams have been rather mediocre and never considered a true playoff threat.  Sure, alot of that goes on not having a QB and riding out the down years of Big Ben career, etc.
