wow that's surprising

with 1 year left on his original contract after this season, thought the time to make the decision on Bowles would have been January 2026

barely over .500 the last 3 years says more about a weak division.

The guy has had impressive win streaks to end the year the last 2 seasons but only following that after wheels falling off type mid season losing streaks

so now if the Bucs go 7-10 and miss playoffs with no key injuries, we are saying ahhh...that's ok Todd

Totally agree with extending Licht.  Arguably our best GM in franchise history but they should have waited to see how this year went with Bowles

on the flip side, they like the stability as this is one of our most successful time periods in franchise history....as sad as that is

also speaks volumes that the bar ownership sets and the bar us fans have are two different things

the bar was set much higher with Dungy as an example

Then after the lost decade after Gruden, they probably are just happy to be in playoff contention each year

I suggested they were playing with house money the first year after Brady but now i feel they may view it more longer term and consider just being 9,10 win team and dance to the playoffs is satisfactory.

Well Firebowles2023 will be fine with a simple name change to Firebowles2033!  I don't know that Bowles did enough to warrant that extension, but now he's got it.  He's not on the hotseat anymore.  That won't stop the fans from calling for his head if the Bucs have another losing streak.

hahaha.  There is going to be a lot of this kind of post going on around here.

The owners MAY BE WRONG, but I doubt they see these extensions as having lower expectation than fans.

Funny intellectual exercise about to unfold on this board, all driven by Bowles because who would say that extending Licht shows the owners have lower standards than fans?

My guess is that most of the Bowles critics here will have a similar take.  Not a criticism, just a note to human nature.

and BB, on this:

the bar was set much higher with Dungy as an example

If thats true -- I think you are right - isn't that a POSITIVE statement about ownership? and even this move?

In other words, didnt they learn from that experience? They got a Super Bowl . .  and a LOST DECADE.  So far they gotra Super Bowl and multiple division championships and playoffs.  Again, maybe disagree about what the outcome will be from this point forward BUT its a positive statement about ownership IF they learned from the Dungy episode.

Some don't even need the losing streak LOL.  Recall that Bowles success caused one poster to try to convince himself and others that playoffs didn't really matter.

IIRC, that name started out as FireLicht?  Licht also got an extension.  Maybe FireLicht now FireBowles might become FireGlazers2025?

Contrary to the opinions of dumbass Bucs fans and media, Bowles is a good coach. 13-4 in December and January in the regular season is a highly impressive stat.

Dungy standard comparison is weak because those teams were drastically underperforming. 2001 team looked like they quit in the December game vs Chicago and playoff game vs Philadelphia. Needed to convert a 4th and 8 vs the 0-11 Lions at home in a must win game. It was actually that game he was done.

Anyway, fans and media were blaming Bowles for losses when the offense completely self destructed.

The other volumes being spoken has to do with Licht's loyalty to Bowles.  Sometimes a HC and GM go together hand in hand, but in this case Licht is above Bowles in the heirarchy.  Licht could have gotten an extension without Bowles getting one, but it's evident that Licht advocated for Bowles.  Licht has the power. This was Licht extending Bowles.

Upshot:  If the team stumbles this year and the Bucs feel stuck with the Bowles this will be a problem for Licht, a problem of his own making.

Some of it is comical, sone of it justified. All of it predictable.

just like the success they have had the last few years is also a "problem of his own making?"  Licht . ..  who knows the state of the team 10000 times better than anyone posting here . . . is obviously a Bowles fan.  He went out of his way last season to CREDIT Bowles for winning with what he had . .

That comment did not play well with some here . .  just like these extensions will not play well with some here, even though the concept is EXACTLY what fans should hope for in their team. Kudos to the Glazers.  Hope it work out. It may not, but either way there will be lots of faux angst here.

Last season some of the "loudest" anti-Bowles voices on the board RECOILED at the notion that that the defense was depleted by injuries.  Many of those same LOUD voices were then upset when we drafted a WR because . .  err. . . the draft was supposed to be . . .  A DEFENSIVE REBUILD lmao.

That is surprising???  You must be new to Buc ball.  We are in a place we have waited 50 years to get to.  A place where we are competitive with the best teams year over year. A place where we can look to the future with logical optimism, not false hope. A place where we can draft depth and build for the future instead of blowing this fucker up every two to three years.

And Licht isn't arguably our best GM ever. He certainly is, like it's not even close.  McKay/Brucey????  Like not even sort of close to what we have now.

Glazers:

"Jason and Todd's excellent leadership and vision have been critical to our organizational success, and the winning culture they have established has us well positioned into the future," said Buccaneers Owner/Co-Chairman Joel Glazer. "Jason has evolved into one of the top talent evaluators and general managers in the NFL, while Todd has led us to three consecutive division titles and is one of the league's leading defensive minds. Under their guidance, we will continue building towards another championship."

Licht:

"I am very grateful to the Glazer Family for the trust and belief they have shown in what we are doing here," said Licht. "Their commitment to providing the resources along with their dedication to fostering a winning culture throughout our entire building are the primary reasons for the great success we have enjoyed these past five seasons. I am also very excited to continue working alongside Todd well into the future as we continue our mission of finding and developing talented players and chasing additional championships for our great fans."

The usual circus clowns will be around soon with posts of "Owner Speak" and "GM Speak" lmao

"what did you expect them to say!"

"simpleton!"

I'm staying neutral on the Bowles issue, but just pointing out the hierarchy.  To me, as with many Bucs fan, the jury is still out.   If it was not for the Falcon swoon and an Anthony Nelson punchout the mood around here would not be so jovial.   But there is no jury, only Judge Licht he gave the thumbs up on the extension.  So that's all fine that he has loyalty to his people, but having too much loyalty can be a fault.  Hopefully this is a good move for the Bucs.
