wow that's surprising
with 1 year left on his original contract after this season, thought the time to make the decision on Bowles would have been January 2026
barely over .500 the last 3 years says more about a weak division.
The guy has had impressive win streaks to end the year the last 2 seasons but only following that after wheels falling off type mid season losing streaks
so now if the Bucs go 7-10 and miss playoffs with no key injuries, we are saying ahhh...that's ok Todd
Totally agree with extending Licht. Arguably our best GM in franchise history but they should have waited to see how this year went with Bowles
on the flip side, they like the stability as this is one of our most successful time periods in franchise history....as sad as that is
That is surprising??? You must be new to Buc ball. We are in a place we have waited 50 years to get to. A place where we are competitive with the best teams year over year. A place where we can look to the future with logical optimism, not false hope. A place where we can draft depth and build for the future instead of blowing this fucker up every two to three years.
And Licht isn't arguably our best GM ever. He certainly is, like it's not even close. McKay/Brucey???? Like not even sort of close to what we have now.
I’ll give it to you that I think licht is our best GM but I’m sure some will argue McKay given where the franchise was prior to then.
ill vote licht
I became a Bucs fan in 1999 so not that new to it
this Bucs team is the most successful Bucs team sans Brady since our 2002 Super Bowl. And that’s a main reason Bucs kept Bowles over coen!
that being said, Bowles is mid coach at best. Certainly not top 12, would you agree?
and how about that defense? I defended Bowles that they lacked talent but it certainly wasn’t the reason for the Bucs success the last 2 years.
bowles better not say anything negative about baker mayfield because that dude saved Bowles job.
and I’m fair to Bowles, another playoff birth in 2025 and he likely gets extended anyway and I’m all for it; but it’s a premature move no doubt
Bucs go 7-10, team is relatively healthy, defense is bottom half of league; you still saying well deserved Bowles?
the right business move would have been to wait 7 months. There was no reason to rush
Anyway, fans and media were blaming Bowles for losses when . . . [fill in the blank]
Some of it is comical, sone of it justified. All of it predictable.
Fumbling the ball with the lead in the 4th qtr is a pretty big deal, no?
No doubt offense lost the playoff game - baker and Barton going full retard on 2 plays was death knelt
but defense was ass all year and our top 5 offense was the only reason we were in playoffs

Looking at the all 22, it was actually Otton that messed up the Baker keep play. It was not designed. Looking at it, it looks like Otton messed up a motion/block or RPO assignment and it fucked up the entire play.
I've explained perfectly how bad the offense was in critical situations that contributed to many losses. Saying "the defense was ass all year" and just spitting out the offenses' total stats is lazy and ignorant.

Ok let’s entertain ourselves
what was the stronger unit last year - the offense or defense
defense was ass all year and our top 5 offense was the only reason we were in playoffs
In 2023 the offense couldn't score on a first drive and was mediocre in terms of scoring ("the only stat that matters"). The defense was 7th in scoring. We went to the playoffs and crushed the Eagles. And when the defense faltered . . we lost to the Lions
I dont think anyone says our "top 7" defense was the reason we were in the playoffs, but it was one reason. The season ends with the defense holding multiple teams under 20 while the offense sort of struggled. Even the second Falcons game that year, the key play is a defensive play by Winfield . . . .who NOT COINCIDENTALLY was out or seriously injured much of 2024 . . .
Its all just a matter of perspective

Offense. That doesn't mean the "defense was ass all year" and the offense did not have major responsbility in losses.
No doubt offense lost the playoff game
Now that is a "hot take!"
This board was mostly about running Bowles out of town after that playoff loss. I compared the defensive performances of the Bucs against the Commanders QB to the Lions the next week . . . and, well, there was some real heat coming form the "Bowles NOT Fan Club."

let’s go a step further. Is it fair to say the defense has gotten worse each and every year under Todd Bowles as head coach?
now you and I know lack of talent was a major contributor but look at 2022 with Brady where we won games putting up like 17 points and then to 2023 where we even had a shutout to 2024
No way it’s possible for defense to be worse in 2025 given talent infusion but boy an ugly trend indeed for a defensive minded head coach
And don’t get it twisted guys, I warmed up to Bowles after his disastrous 2022 season. He’s a likeable guy and the locker room likes him but no matter what happens this season, it was a premature move to extend him before his final year
Bucs don’t make playoffs and it looks retarded
bucs go 13-4 and become one of the best teams in the NFC, still stupid. He wasn’t a threat to leave us, maybe he cost more if they to 13-4 and deep run in playoffs but very little risk here in waiting 7 months

No. The defense was better in 2023 than it was it was in 2022.
Well Firebowles2023 will be fine with a simple name change to Firebowles2033! I don't know that Bowles did enough to warrant that extension, but now he's got it. He's not on the hotseat anymore. That won't stop the fans from calling for his head if the Bucs have another losing streak.
Guess I'm drinking tonight
an ugly trend indeed for a defensive minded head coach
notice they both got extensions?
and last season Licht credit Bowles for doing well with what he had
and then this offseason . . reload the defense.
To me . .. that sounds like a plan
Btw, the Bowles get credit for successfully picking two rookie OCs and a Qb OFF THE CRAP HEAP that most here said sucked (the "real" loser of the Trask offseason battle)

This is what happens when you convert a lineman to a position that is critical in getting things right pre-snap. You can't have your center constantly shitting the bed pre snap then constantly holding in critical moments.
It was always my worry with Barton and it came to fruition. But I do think he will make a massive leap this year and we'll all eat our words to some degree.
I still prefer JPJ so I'll be curious to see how the new regime treats him in LV. I'll go out on a limb and say he makes a massive leap this year since they won't move him around so much.
And don’t get it twisted guys, I warmed up to Bowles after his disastrous 2022 season
That was the season he killed Tom Brady, right? :-)
