I'm not too worried about the offschedule blitzes but its when he gets comfortable in blank and long circumstances where he gets into his tendency of calling C3 C4 where we get burned for chunk plays on defense. By doing some self scouting he will be able to identify where he falls into his tendencies. How to not get burned on these plays is by player heroics. Heroics isnt becoming a DPOY but by having knowledge and preparation for the play the opponents will call. Players will need to be able to identify what the offense is trying to do to them on that certain plays. I would like to see more 2man with a pocket push gap integrity rush, its safe and forces the qb to make tight window throws and work the middle of the field, with less chance of coverage bust, a few of those in those blank and long situations will be different and provides the safetynet bowles likes when he calls zone.

Teaching points: why are they motioning? - To identify if its man or zone. Now does the qb make a check? they just identified if its man/zone.

Now go back into the film room and understand oh they recognize we are playing zone and they like run pick routes from this formation(packers on one of their checks where they motioned the back and david trailed from outside) now that love has identified man he checked into one of his man beaters for the first down. What can we do as a playcaller to stop this we can't. We need player heroics from preparation. Immediately as soon as I hear the check I am thinking what is Love checking too and from then on we need to communicate as a defense that a check just happened and the MLB to start calling out what to expect so eveyrone can play faster. Either that or check into zone but then we would probably need a film junkie like kuechly who we could trust to make those checks on defense.

Back to those zone busts, the only thing we can do as a playcaller is by coaching our guys to play those situations and prepare better because schematically we are "beat". So as a playcaller the best thing we can do to put our players in better position is to get out of our tendencies to go to c3 c4 in those blank and long situations and switch it up and to recognize formations.

Heroics ofcourse can be from players studying film or the passrush getting there, the latter i do not rely on because we dont hvae the horses.

The tendency to fall into c3 c4 zone is evident from how we were shredded by Philly Dal and HOU, Bowles did a good job of this on their turnover on down stand when we were shredded up to the 40, he switched it up quickly. Go off schedule to be more unpredictable as a defensive play caller, but also we need player heroics of film study and call outs when something funky is going on with the offense.

One thing i really liked is that we fixed our mesh busts and have played a lot more solidly on those plays, now for the C3 C4 bust, its by identifying that they love attacking 2 players down the sideline pressuring the cb we need to flat player to now recognize oh were in C3 theres a good chance the offense is gonna dial up a c3 beater and its up to me(OLB,S) to now trail that second player attacking the sidelines. Understanding route trees and what the offense is trying to do to me is another level of football understanding our players need to know and those are the "heroics" that can fix our defense. Figuring an offenses checks is time consuming but doable from a player perspective, but thats how you earn 100m in your lifetime

Which is why every weeks its all about focus and preparation for us to stomp these teams out, they're not more talented than us.

TLDR; switch up the playcalling play more 2man under in blank and long, players need to study more and beat the scheme beater

Teams have been doing cover 2 and cover 3 beaters so long and the rule changes favor it.  This is why defensive teams built around cover 2/cover 3 zone concepts are not really a thing anymore.

Bucs have the talent to play m2m with a shell over the top.  Honestly the point of playing zone over m2m is to avoid being burned for a big play but if it keeps happening m2m is better.  That is because with m2m you have more opportunities for INTs and coverage sacks.  If you have an elite pass rush m2m or zone work either way but zone more so for INT opportunities.

The Bucs don't have an elite pass rush so the better consider playing m2m underneath and having one or two shells over the top.  You have Winfield back there so you should be more aggressive with your long and fast trio of CBs on the boundary.

2 safeties over the top and m2m is what bowles needs to call more of when he falls into his c3 c4 tendencies, and call a pocket push rush to compliment it to stop respect the qb running and allow the qb to make the throws. Though teams try to counter this by calling man beaters but thats when checks and communiation happen for player heroics. The reason i believe we get beat so much on c3 c4 is that we call it when we are too predictable with our tendencies, if bowles can switch it upa bit, itll be good for the defense.

He plays base zone for the safety but man2m with 2 safeties can do the job just as well to switch up our tendencies if we are gonna get chunked for 15+yds. Also I understand he calls zone to keep his corners fresh, but we should have trust in our reserves to give the starters a breather

What I think is that he(Bowles) gets lull into autopilot when the game jsut flows, he needs to stay focus at these points to not get lulled into his autopilot tendencies and switch it up for the defenses sake. And if he does get lulled some other Assistant coaches can call something throw a suggestion, but im not in their headset to know the coaches arent already doing it

He snapped out of his tendencies and play a lot more different on blank and 10. Caught the jags off guard and made Lawrence think a little longer

Yeah the game commenters said as soon as the Jags would move the ball against zone Bowles dialed up m2m and/or safety/ILB blitz combos.

Exactly, hopefully theyre reading this forum and hopefully when we crush the Saints fkn will next week I can try to watch all 16 games of PHI/DAL and find their formations, checks and tendencies.

He didnt go into playcaller autopilot and that was what caught Lawrence off guard

Yepp Winfields pick on 2nd and 5 was 2man under, qbs who arent extremely accurate and if you have good players m2m(wedo) forces qbs to be extra accurate to not be tipped or sail the pass or else the safeties are waiting in the wings.

How I expect Carr to attack the defense is those deep post for#22 and the safeties have to wathc out if he gets behind them from across the field so they gotta stay focus and peek on their peripherals if they "feel the outside receiver running the post". Other than those deep routes and the usual c3 bust with 2 sideline routes. I don't expect much from Carr, flat checkdowns here and there, but as long as the offense keeps humming, I expect domination from our team if were as focused as we were, because Saints are reeling, theyre not on their p's and q's and its time to crush them
