paying $50 million in one year wouldn't matter as long as it did not prevent you from having other players -- unless you are the Glazers or their financial advisor . . . they seem to be doing fine thoughOne stellar QB makes a difference . . even today . . of course
If you don't have Revis, where are you going to spend the money? There is a salary floor, you know. We are already 20 million under the cap WITH Revis.
Micheal Bennett.
Micheal Bennett.
It was clear for whatever reason we had no intention of re-signing Bennett. I dont know if that was a Schiano thing or a Dominik thing or if Bennett just wanted out. But I feel Bennett wouldnt have even been re-signed even if he took a paycut. The Bucs seemed dead-set on Bowers.

There was plenty of money to sign Bennett, but he wasn't big enough to play DE in Schiano's system.

Link? It was Schiano ?
Not saying Revis isn't any good. But he only gives us a 4-5 year window. If we can't contend within that time then we would have been better served with drafting a couple of guys that could have been here for the next 10 years.
This team had better be in the playoffs next year or full firesale of all the players should be in tow. Way too much money spent on aging talent to not make a serious run.
Revis has a series of one year contracts, none of which are guaranteed. That could change, but he could be cut and owed not one dime more. The ripple effect he has on this defense makes him worth every penny. Most of the teams who will make the playoffs are still looking for their "franchise" QB. It takes a team working together to get there. The Bucs are building that team. A franchise B would be nice, but....................

Do you remember all of those threads where simpy's like you and the lil slugger went on and on about Bowers going to outperform Bennett, yada, yada, yada? The link of SR reporting that Schiano's system needed bigger DE's like Bowers was in those. Feel free to educate yourself.

If we give him a $32M roster bonus then the contract becomes highly tradeable at 5 years, $48M. Could get multiple high picks at that point and we would still be hitting the floor.
Move makes some sense if they were aiming more towards 2014 and knew he wasn't going to be 100% in 2013 anyway. He'll be 29 next year
I love how some of you are operating under the assumption that a first round pick equals a Hall of Famer. So damn stupid. The Bucs have the best cover corner in the league, sorry, deal with it losers.

Right. Because teams that trade away no.1 picks always come out on top, don't they?

Uh well teams don't often get an opportunity to trade for a future Hall of Famer in the prime of their career.
I've said this from the start. Sure he's a good player and makes this team better but unless this team can contend in the next few years ( unlikely without a franchise QB), then it was a waste of two draft picks.
Several teams headed for the playoffs this year, have QB's I wouldn't classify as franchise QB's.
