Our long national nightmare is over. The Cleveland Browns have a coach.According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns have reached a deal with Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine to become their head coach. That brings to a close a long and winding search to find a replacement for one-and-done Rob Chudzinski.Pettine brings a different approach to the job, and wasn’t among the first crop of names mentioned for the job. But he flew into Cleveland today and apparently has struck a deal.He was one of 10 candidates to interview for the job, along with (take a deep breath) Dan Quinn, Todd Bowles, Josh McDaniels, Ken Whisenhunt, Ben McAdoo, Mike Munchak, Rich Bisaccia, Dirk Koetter and Greg Schiano.Of that group, Bowles and McDaniels took their names out of the running, and Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase declined a chance to interview. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/23/browns-reach-a-deal-with-mike-pettine-have-a-coach-now/
All the reporters on twitter are saying that everything they've heard about Pettine is extremely positive. Good for Cleveland.
I heard Rich Gannon talking about the attitude that the Browns need in a new Head Coach. Basically, they need a no-nonsense guy who says, "We are going to win, we aren't going to play scared. We're going to be dominant at home, and competitive on the road. We aren't going to play scared."And then I was like, "But, it's the Browns."
Who the hell is Mike Pettinne ?
Any time you have to google your new Head Coach, it's not a good thing. (see Schiano)
I don't know, Dungy was way down our wish list and that worked out. He appears to be well respected although not a household name.
I say good for the guy since it's probably his best (or only) opportunity to be an HC in the big league.....maybe he'll be able to turn things around over there....they have Josh Gordon and a pretty good nucleus on defense so ya never know.
I bet a few browns fans are sleeping better tonight knowing the mrsa monster won't get them.
I'll put good $$$ on Dan Quinn being the first guy hired next year assuming they don't go back to the Super Bowl
My guess is he'll be on the hot seat when the Browns lose their first pre-season game.
WHO? :o
Will be fired for being winless affer the draft.

This.
For as much fun as it was watching them dither, not a bad hire. He was Rex Ryan's right hand man in Baltimore and NY and turned around a talented Bill's D that was truly awful under Wannstadt. As we found out the hard way last year, coordinators/position coaches hard to come by though.

Haha that's true. When the Bucs hired Schiano, my reaction was, "wait the Rutgers coach??" I had to look up his coaching history.
