Tampa Bay Bucs don't need more excuses. They need to clean houseBy ALAN DELLDecember 26, 2013 Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano talks to wide receiver Skye Dawson (18) during the first quarter of an NFL football game against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, in Tampa, Fla. (AP Photo/Reinhold Matay)In five days the Glazer brothers can make things right. The siblings who own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers can turn Black Monday into a shining day of hope. They can tell head coach Greg Schiano and general manager Mark Dominik thank you but your services are no longer needed. It's the right thing to do. It would make the vast majority of the fan base happy.Schiano has no equity. There is nothing in his resume that gives you reason to feel hope.In 11 years at Rutgers he was below .500 against Big East Competition and BCS schools and never won a Big East title. He was 0-11 against West Virginia. In five years as GM, Dominik had one winning season and the Bucs never went to the playoffs. His 2009 draft that included his prize Josh Freeman has been obliterated. You mean there is nothing better out there? This team is not that far from being winner, but needs a change of leadership. It needs a quarterback who doesn't have to be surrounded by elite talent to be average. It's time for the Glazers to take ownership of their mistakes. The fans deserve it. All those empty seats need it.The best news for Bucs fans this week were reports by multiple sources that Schiano's representatives have inquired about a possible opening at Penn State where current head coach Bill O'Brien is expected to leave for the NFL.Schiano denies it, but more than a few reputable sources say it's true and it makes sense. It could mean Schiano anticipates being fired.Better yet it could antagonize the Glazers, who have taken a lot of heat for initially hiring him.If he dumps the owners, could there be a worse embarrassment even with this family's history of poor decision making. The brothers fired the two best coaches in franchise history in Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden. They hired arguably the worst and certainly the most under-qualified coach in Raheem Morris. If you look at Schiano's body of work in college he never should've been hired. He has no trophy case because he doesn't need one unless you count a bunch of meaningless bowl games that help pay expenses at ESPN.Schiano's two years with the Bucs has been abysmal. He was 7-9 last year and will probably finish 4-12 with a loss to the Saints on Sunday, which would make him 11-21.Bucs quarterback Mike Glennon epitomizes Schiano and Dominik. His top side is mediocrity if everything falls into place.Dominik's overall body of work with drafts and free agents is mediocre at best. There have been some big splashes but just as many busts and he shelled out money to people like Eric Wright and Dashon Goldson who didn't and don't measure up to their paycheck.A case can be made that Schiano has done a worse job than Morris, with a lot more talent. The Bucs have lost eight games by double digits. Morris lost eight games by double digits in his final season. They rank last in total offense (the first time since '83).Their high priced defense has allowed opponents to convert 73 of 191 third down attempts, which is similar to Morris' last year (73-185) when the Bucs ranked 30th in total defense. The defense has had troubles holding onto to fourth quarter leads.Glennon is not a guy who can carry a franchise and cannot compensate for the deficiencies of others. He needs a lot of help and offers mediocrity in return.Schiano was criticized at Rutgers for being a poor game day manager. His inability to make in game adjustments is evident by the Bucs second half woesThe Bucs have failed on 27 straight third down conversion attempts of five yards or longer in the second half over their last seven games. There is a feeling that constantly changing coaches doesn't solve anything, which is accurate. But the last two coaches for the Bucs (Morris and Schiano) were not qualified, which makes that argument mute. You can take all the negative stats and throw them against the wall. SPLAT!!!!It doesn't matter. The eyeball test says everything.Make a change. The fans need hope, not excuses.Alan Dell, Herald sports writer, can be reached at 941-745-8056. I agree with this. As I've said, Schiano might be a good talent guy and can obviously keep his team together during hard times, he just doesn't seem to be a good coach on game days. I honestly haven't seen any improvement from the coaching staff for game planning in the two years he's been in charge. I'm not a fan that likes to see change for the sake of change, but if we keep Schiano for 2014, IMO we'll be right back at this point at the end of next year. Maybe, we might be a game or three higher in the win column, but I don't think Schiano has what it takes to get this team to be a consistent winner. That's my opinion. However, I still believe that the Glazers are likely to give him another year unless we really get blown out in NO.
He's done , he tipped his hand by looking at the Pen state job . His brand just can't be sold in Tampa next year, he's done bye bye now

You people believe everything you read?
About time somebody in the media pointed out Marky Mark Dominick's resume in Tampa since he became our GM. You aint gonna see nothing like this written by PR though. Maybe I should go to this newspaper for my coverage on the Bucs since they aint afraid to write nothing like this.
Amen. Clean house already!
His top side is mediocrity if everything else falls into place. So well said. Is there any reason to ever believe if Schiano is in a close game with a Belichick, either Harbaugh, Pete Carroll, Sean Peyton, or other top 15 caliber coach, Schiano would win more than one out of 10?
We don't want to bruise Ed Glazer's ego. Give em all another year.
I am resigning myself to the disappointing fact that few changes will be made and we'll waste another year on this coaching staff and quarterback.
I'm resigning to the disappointment of having to take a year off from giving a crap about this team. Maybe I'll start following the nba again.

No don't do that...they make the Guantanamo inmates watch the NBA and ESPN's coverage of it.
I tell you right now man. If the Glazers don't do something bout this mess (fire Dominick and Schiano) and get some legitimate/experienced pimps in here to run the show then I aint gonna support this team no more. Don't just look at Marky Mark Dominick's record as our GM. Watch some other NFL teams and games dawg. There are a lot of good and entertaining teams out there with ownerships that actually give a damn about the team. I can and will go root for one of them if something aint done man. If ownership don't give a damn then why should I?
So assuming we lose week 17, that means we started the year out with 8 straight losses and finish the year with 1 win out of the last 5 and that is acceptable? Our wins came against a crappy Falcons team, a crappy Bills team, a crappy Dolphin team the week they were self imploding, and a crappy Lions team on a losing streak. My god, what has become of this fan base?

The fanbase doesn't accept it S&B. But the Glazers have to give a crap. If they don't, then they'll sit on their wallets and keep the circus in town. It's the lot we're in. Either your vocal in your displeasure and hope they change it or you quit, like that All Eyez dude. Me, I don't quit on my team. If I can get through the 80's and early 90's I can get through this.
"The brothers fired the two best coaches in franchise history in Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden."Was it someone else who hired them? "They hired arguably the worst and certainly the most under-qualified coach in Raheem Morris."And who was it that fired him? Talk about some one sided garbage. Incredibly weak writing.
