@donkey_hunter - I’m all in on Verse, but not with Latu. Latu is too slender. Looks fragile. Verse can handle the physicality of the NFL.

Verse: 6'4, 254 lbs

Latu: 6'5, 259 lbs

They pretty damn similar, physically.

Very similar.

Latu's injury history is my biggest concern. But, he's IMO the best odd-front EDGE in the class.

@bucsbits - yes. And just look at them. Verse is much more physical. Latu reminds me of a Gaines Adams type.

The odds are one of the two between Verse or Latu will drop because the first round is going to feature a run on QBs, OTs and WRs which typically pushes down defensive players to the mid/late first round.

I don’t think it’s a guess as to who falls in this scenario. Although, I’d like to think if they were both somehow to make it to 19 or 20 - we’d try & go get the preferred Verse…he just looks like a Bowles Edge.

Either would answer the immediate need. I do think some great options could fall - just not betting it will be Verse at this point.

In fact, right now I’m thinking it could be Chop Robinson at #26, but there’s a lot of time left and at that point would CB be the better pick?

If Bowles continues to run a lot of shallow zone coverage with cover 2 or cover 3 shells over the top those shallow zone concepts then you do not need a high end CB to play in this scheme.  That was what Schiano was doing and that was a great misuse of Revis' talent as a m2m corner and what was given up for Revis was too much.  So, Davis this past season was clearly out of his element playing off coverage or shallow zone coverage.  And then being asked to break and react when he is a press m2m CB along with missing play time.

Agreed. It seems foolish to use a first-round pick on a CB that will predominately play zone. I have no idea why Bowles continued to stick one of the top-graded M2M CB's (Davis) into zone so often, but he did. You can find zone CB's on Day 2 and 3.

@bucsbits - Yeah, I know. RIP Gaines Adams, but they are similar player types.

Agree as well. Would be a complete waste of premium draft capital to not utilize the player properly.

At this juncture, I'm thinking it's:

ROUND 1

Verse, Latu, or Chop at Edge.

JPJ, Barton, possibly Frazier at C.

Wild Card would be Coleman or Thomas Jr. if he fell

ROUND 2

Issac or Kneeland at Edge

Sainristil, Jackson, or Tampa at CB

Wild Card would be Wilson at LB or Legette at WR

ROUND 3

Van Pran at C

Mahogany, Beebe, Zinter, or McCormick at OG

Wild Card would be RB or TE (Sinnot)

you know I was not even thinking about his passing at a very young age. I was only thinking about all the disappointment, from Gruden when the pick was made … to his poor performance on the field . Really bad pick

Actually, would agree with any/all these (although, I haven’t payed much attention to Mahogany).

Nice work.

@donkey_hunter - I’m an FSU guy, but I’m not big on Coleman. He had games where he completely disappeared. He’ll be an NFL rotational guy that will make some splash plays, but there is too much depth at WR in this draft to risk a first round pick on him.

Bowles sounds like Dennis is going to help fill some of White's role in blitzing

"I think he is a heck of a pass rusher and one of our better zone droppers and he has a feel for the game, so we have to keep him healthy to stay on the field," said Bowles. "We are really looking for a big jump for him this season. He plays Mike and Mo."

In the same discussion, he talks up Britt in a way that reflects on White:

"Well, we are not running the 40, so he is a football player," described Todd Bowles on Britt. "You have to get around them to use your speed. K.J., what he lacks in the two steps in the speed department, he makes up for in being in the right place and understanding the game. So, you can play fast and not be fast and you can be fast and not play fast. So, K.J. is one of those guys that is not very fast, but he plays fast so we are comfortable with that."

The question might have compared the two. Not really Bowles style to bash a player.
