Must Have A Competent Offense.
Therein lies the problem...everyone thinks just because KC did it...now everyone can do it...The Chiefs play in a pretty crappy division!!!! The NFC South is considerably tougher...Adrian Peterson comes back from his ACL injury just as good and in record time...now everyone should do it...Lets just wait and see how the offseason and the draft play out before we annoint the Bucs the new Chiefs.
Schiano won 4 games with this team, and should have won two or three more. I see no no reason Lovie can't put us over .500

They went 2-4 in their crappy division this year. 9-1 against the rest of the league. So much for your theory.
The Bucs definitely have some pieces to work with but the problem I see is, unlike the Chiefs, the Bucs don't have enough pieces in any one phase of the game to be really good. The Chiefs have a really good running game and really good pass rush. When they win, that's how they win. The Bucs have a good running back but bad offensive line, good first two receivers but bad QB and bad pass protection, good interior pass rush but bad outside pass rush, and good #1 corner but not as good #2 corner and really bad cover safeties. They don't have anything they can focus on as their identity.

+1 and a stinging indictment of the past GM
Nope. They've sucked for a long time. A lot of first rounders on that roster too.

+2. If 1 area is close to being elite it would be the pass rush simply because we have elite players there. McCoyhas established himself as a dominating presence in the middle. And Lavonte David has proven to be good at getting to the QB. If we can get good DEs that part of Buc football could become dominating.

I disagree. I think the defense can be really good IF they add that pass rushing end. I also think Banks is fine as a #2. Agree about the cover safeties, but I wonder how much better it becomes if that pass rush improves

My point was the Chiefs already had the pieces for their running game and pass rush even when they were horrible. They didn't add those players before this last season. You're talking about the Bucs adding more pieces.
The Chiefs play in a pretty crappy division!!!! The NFC South is considerably tougher...
ummm, you are aware that the AFC West put 3 teams into the playoffs this year, right? CHIEFS, BRONCOS, CHARGERS.
You beat me to it. Only division to do it, that is pretty impressive.

So now you are going to try and sell the AFC West as a division equal to the NFC South???They went 9-1 against the likes of the Jags, Cowboys, Titans, Raiders, Texans, Browns, Redskins, Giants, and Bills...you are right...quite impressive ( ONE team finished at the .500 mark). They beat the Eagles in week 3 (good luck on their part)...PAPER TIGERS!!!!!The Chiefs were a fraud all year long

Why, yes I am...but if you review the Chiefs Schedule, you will see they where a FRAUD all year long...they were swept by the Broncos, the Chargers, and the Colts...they ONLY Teams they played that had records above .500

The Chiefs also field 8 Pro-bowlers. They are no fraud. They beat the teams they were supposed to beat. The Broncos are arguably the very best team in the NFL (possibly one of the best teams in NFL history) and they rested their starters in the season-ending games against the Chargers and Colts (and came a missed field goal away from beating the Chargers WITH THEIR BACKUPS!!!).

Absolutely. While the Chiefs have had terrible coaching (like the Bucs) but they have much better O- and D-lines than the Bucs. The big key to their new found success (besides coaching) was Alex Smith. While many degrade him as a "game manager", the guy makes generally great decisions and also delivers on the big play when he needs to.The Bucs are severely lacking at QB, O-line, D-line and receiver. They may be able to easily upgrade the D-line this off-season (Jared Allen please!) but they have too much money being wasted on O-line and receiver and there won't be many options available to them for a starting QB. There is no Alex Smith out there in free agency this year. Glennon wil hopefully take a step forward next year, but he's still a couple years off. Unless they get much better play next season from the guys they have, there's no way they can do much better than 8-8. Lovie Smith is a good coach, but he's not nearly the coach Andy Reid is.If this team gets to 9-7, it will be a major, major accomplishment.

I get what you are saying. I just think you are selling the defense a little short. That being said, I don't think we are as close as the Chiefs per say, but then again there a multiple circumstances that lead to wins/losses/ Chiefs had one of the softest schedules in the league this year (Chargers and Broncos the softest).
